Freshman Profile Information
For the Fall 2006 Freshman class, we have received over 23,000 applications for a class of 4,025. We have completed the review for all applicants who applied by the December 1 priority deadline. This profile information includes only that group - we will update the information after we complete the review of the January 20th applicants.

The admitted freshmen students have a strong B+ or better average in their high school coursework and have taken the most challenging courses available to them including honors, Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate courses.

All Admits Fall 2006

The 9,448 students admitted to the University of Maryland have an average (weighted) GPA of 3.96 and the middle 50% of SAT scores range from 1240 to 1380, and between 28-31 on the ACT. As a result 25% of the admitted students scored below a 1240 on the SAT and 25% scored above a 1380.

University Honors:

The 2,536 students admitted to the University Honors program have an average (weighted) GPA of 4.26 and the middle 50% scored between 1350-1480 on the SAT and between 30-33 on the ACT.

College Park Scholars:

The 2,629 students admitted to the College Park Scholars Program have an average (weighted) GPA of 4.02 and the middle 50% scored between 1270-1380 on the SAT and between 28-31 on the ACT.
We have admitted students from all 50 states and over 100 countries.

Nice find. I think this will be very helpful to people just applying next year. I think it is very clear those in honors have much higher scores than those in scholars. Also it seems the scholars students don't have higher scores than the average of the school, if only a few pints higher. But then again more than 50% of the class is in honors or scholars so maybe it makes sense that it is close to the average of the school.

Wha I find interesting is the rise in SAT scores. The mid 50 was 1170-1370 last year and now it just took a 70 point increase this year. Congrats to those who got in but the was unlucky for those who didn't because of the sudden increase. I think the school should have increased it gradually and not like this. This caused a lot of problems for stuents who thought UMD was a match. It is also possible that they are gradually increasing it and next year it will be even harder. I don't think the school would take such a big jump one year not at all the next. Maybe the quality of students increased so they had to take higher scores and that won't change so the rising seniors should take notice. I think the lower 25% could jump to 1270 or more next year so 1300 would be a safe score to aim or more.

Another thing that is noticable is that our range is pretty small. 140 points is pretty small compared to most schools, especially some publics that have a big difference between their lower 25 and upper 25. We have a higher lower 25 than berkeley which is 1200 but lower upper 25 than berkeley which is 1450.

Good luck HS class of 07 because it will be pretty hard next year.

Those are some top-notch numbers. I guess our class is just awesome like that.

High-five for all us upper 25ers! (SAT wise)

I'm a 1380 exactly. Am i top 25% :( just on the boarderline. high-five... anyone.... anyone? Thats ok I am fin, I can be both with the non 25% and with the 25%, i am a renaissance man

^Haha.

I'm top 25% for the university...but for Honors I'm just average. Borderline top 25%on the ACT though.

I didn't get into Honors because of my lack of doing... anything worthwhile during high school. I worked, I slept, I hung out with friends. Notice how HW is not included in there...

Landed a 1410 though! So I am pleased.

My friend has a 4.6 W and 32 ACT and got scholars. That sucks for him. He had a 1320 SAT so it just goes to show some people do better on the ACT than on the SAT. People who do well in school seem to do well on the ACT.

Yea...i do good in school but only had a 1720 SAT im going to take the ACtr

Good idea, you have nothing to lose. good luck.
