This board has been super helpful and I had two more questions for students. I’m going to be living on the Newton Campus and I was wondering if I should get a bike or not. Is it common for kids to have bikes and are they used often? I sort of liked the idea of having the freedom of riding back and forth to the main campus whenever I wanted to. I was just wondering if it’s completely uncommon. And my other question was around the type of desk in the dorm, do they come with a key? I’ll have my MacBook and my parents wanted to know if they should buy me a locking file cabinet or not.
Thank you
Bike: only bring if you have one already and it wouldn’t be a hassle to transport to campus or if you would like to use it for leisure or to get around the area surrounding Newton Campus (I.e. Newton Center, the local “downtown”). BC isn’t terribly bike friendly due to all the stairs/hills, so once you’re on campus it won’t be too helpful. Few students bike from Newton to Main campus for this reason. There’re more skateboarders probably. It also isn’t exactly biking weather for much of the academic year (but maybe that’s the Florida in me). The busses are fairly reliable and convenient, once you get the hang of it.
Lockbox: yes, the desks include a compartment which is compatible with a standard combination lock, which I believe you would have to bring. I never used one, but it is probably a good idea!
Hope that helps!
@edgeook8 thank you. I’m from Florida too.
