I'm currently a junior in high school that is really interested into applying to UCSB as of recently. I noticed that it is required to take a one year-long visual/performing arts credit. I have only taken 2 one semester drawing classes during high school. Can I take my visual/performing arts credit my senior year? Will it still be counted even though it will not be finished when I apply? I sent an email to admissions but I got an automated reply saying that they don't guarantee they can answer because they are overloaded at this time. Thanks!

Yes. You can take the year long course during your senior year. My daughter is a senior and taking it this year. She has been admitted to UCSB. Good luck!

when you apply you list the classes you plan on taking senior year, and they require you to notify them of any changes. So admissions will assume you are taking (and passing) your senior classes and will count them towards the requirements. During the summer after you graduate HS they get your final transcript and check that you indeed took & passed what you listed.

If you have already taken DRAWING 1 A or DRAMA 1 A or similar Art/Music/Theater etc class, then in your senior year, you can plan to take (and take) DRAWING 1 B or DRAMA 1 B. As long as you can show that you took both parts of that year long class. If it does not fit into your schedule, then you can take a 3 semester hour community college class (not online) in the Arts/Music/Theater and it will substitute for a year long class.

My son just had to do this because he did not satisfy the A-G one year arts requirement.

Thanks for the replies everyone! Is there an email that would be less overloaded right now that I could get in contact with UCSB through? The community college idea sounds like a great one! I just want to get all the details so its a sure thing. Also, I saw on their website that they have a phone number you can call for admissions questions. Would they be more reachable through that? Thanks again!

there you will find the name and emails of Admissions Counselors. One is bound to contact you back!

Good luck!

As long as the two courses are consecutive (e.g. Drawing 1 and Drawing 2), they can be taken at any time. They do not have to be taken in the same year. My son, for example, took the first semester the fall of freshman year, and the second course in the sequence the fall semester of his sophomore year.

It just has to be two academically consecutive classes in the same discipline.
