On the UCSB website it said in high school you had the complete one year of some form of an set class (visual, drama, etc). Is this absolutely necessary?

yes it is.

Is that just for California residents? Or out of state as well? And would taking AP art history count?

No, the requirements are for all applicants. AP Art History fulfilled the art requirement at my high school (per [University of California Doorways Home](http://www.ucop.edu/doorways) ).

I’ve never heard of anyone getting around the a-g requirements.

Awesome. I wanted to take that class regardless, but I was hesitant on having to take a zero period my senior year. If it means I have a shot at UCSB though its totally worth it! Thank you!
