Many will disagree (especially Brittany/Goddard/Rubin fans), but I"d say these are the top 4 freshman dorms:

University Hall: I'll admit some bias, but it's awesome--every room is a suite and the Union Square location is great (only a 10-15 minute walk to Washington Square).

Hayden is located right on Washington Square Park. Nice combo of decent facilities and prime location.

Weinstein: Great location, many dining hall/food court options, but the rooms are smaller than Hayden.

Third North: Pretty nice, but seems like an inferior version of Univ. Hall.

University Hall is a little nicer than 3rd North in terms of the amenities, the rooms on average are a bit bigger (3rd North rooms range unlike UHall where they are all the same). Also, I believe UHall is newer.

I definitely highly recommend the previously posted website (several posts ago). I posted an evening or two ago and received many extremely helpful responses.

They basically have the same things, but UHall is just nicer and newer. In my opinion, UHall has a better study lounge, TV room, and overall nicer and larger rooms. On the other hand, I've heard 3rd North's gym is a little more extensive than UHall's, but UHall is right next door to Palladium's fitness center which is pretty awesome (has a pool and everything else).

As it's been discussed, I would say UHall, Mattistotle would say Hayden, though we've both admitted to being a bit biased. Regardless, both University Hall and Hayden are among the best freshman dorms, at least in my opinion.

Though keep in mind, everyone has their own view on this question of best NYU frosh dorm. There really is no broad consensus over "what's beter", each residence hall really does have it's own defining characteristics.

"I think UHall is going to be sophomore next year."

Really!?! Where did you hear this?

I know all about the sophomore cluster in Union Square that NYU is going to create next year, but I didn't think UHall was going to be a part of this since it's a part of the freshman cluster. Wow, that would be great if it happens, I can just stay put where I am without moving since I'm already a huge fan of UHall.

On the housing application, can you request specific buildings? Or you just request apartment or traditional? I had a couple friends in Hayden over the summer and it was really nice and I spent a lot of time there and I would love to live there, but I would also like UHall because it is closer to the CAP studios!

Also, another question. How does the transfer from summer housing to fall housing work. If I plan on going up this summer and living in NYU housing and work/or take classes, if not assigned to the same dorm I am assigned to in the fall, when would I get to move in? Would I be able to avoid the "move-in day"? I know that if you have confirmed housing for the fall, you are not kicked out when everyone else is, but where do I go from there?

I know a lot of people that have moved in before move-in day. They've just said to the guard "listen, my flight got in early, can I just move my stuff in?" and all of the people who have done that have gotten in.

Yep, the cluster's uhall/palladium/carlyle/coral.

I'm in 3N now, and I like it more than UHall. Maybe it's true that there's a bigger range in sizes. My room is bigger than UHall rooms and my common room kicks UHall's common rooms' asses.
