Does anyone know when freshman room and roommate information will be coming out? Thanks!
Thank you for asking this question…my twins are checking email 3 times a day waiting! I do feel that this info should have been out to students by Aug 1st, so they could plan and contact their roommates.
But, I know this doesn’t answer you question. Sorry!
Welcome to Fordham! And to dealing with ResLife. In the past emails are usually sent out sometime in Mid-August. I think my daughter heard around 8/10 (and this was back in 2013).
In the meantime, get the stuff you need such as bedding. You can coordinate with a room mate about bigger things like a fridge or TV. I would hesitate about getting storage containers that can be placed under a bed until you know if you are in a triple. If you ever need things during the school year, you can pick them up across the street at TJMaxx, Macy’s Backstage or a #9 bus ride to Target on W225th St.
Thank you for the info.
What do you mean about storage under the beds unless a triple? Do not all beds go up? Will the 3 drawer plastic totes not fit underneath? We did already buy those - Ugh. This is way too late to not yet have this info!
I know my twins are in Queen’s…they just don’t know which dorm yet…they have requested each other, but don’t know if they will be in a triple.
Any info you might have would be greatly appreciated!
^^^^In a triple there is usually a set of bunk beds so there is less under-bed storage (as the bottom bed cannot be lofted).
Happy1 - can all the beds be raised a little…except for the bunks? Like can all others be raised to fit the shorter 3 drawer plastic containers?
We can not even find any pictures of dorm rooms online…it all seems so vague.
Thank you!
The three drawer storage will fit under the bed, my daughter had a couple of those.
The beds can be raised to fit more stuff underneath, just contact facilities to put in a work order. Fordham does not do “lofting”. The beds are such that the mattress frames can be adjusted. I know a small fridge can fit under a bed also.
I know your frustration when it comes to finding out what the rooms look like. Just search on YouTube “Fordham Queen’s Court” and there are some videos that might help.
@MomTheChauffer Thanks for the responses. I guess we just wait and see. I have already gotten everything I think he’ll need, but if it ends up he can’t use some things, I guess we’ll just hold on to it for next year (or the year after when his sister goes to college too). It’s hard to wait, but he’s actually doing better than I am! I guess I just need that mental “visual” of where he’ll be.
@aimster888 - You’re welcome! I know it’s hard especially when you know others already have room assignments and already have completed their shopping. I was surprised when my daughter was an incoming freshman and she didn’t get her assignment until mid-August. We had already purchased storage and bedding stuff. There was no need for a TV or fridge at the time. My daughter was assigned Martyr’s Court and she was lucky because the room across the hall from hers was a forced triple and it was tight in there. The past few years Fordham has seen a dramatic increase in freshman classes. Her incoming class had 1963 students. It’s been over 2000 since. And many many forced triples.
If you do get Queen’s or Martyr’s, there is AC. That’s the one saving grace about Martyr’s. South and Loschert has no AC. I think Loyola has AC.
When you find out the room assignment, make sure you mark every box with his name and dorm/room number. The email he will receive will have all the instructions. This way when you arrive for move in, you just open the doors of your vehicle and the “student ambassadors” will take everything to his room. He checks in while you then park your vehicle in the garage and return to set up the room. It’s very easy and very coordinated. It’s emotional. I cried when I pulled into the gate and went on the line for Martyr’s. I cried when I was handed the “Fordham” water bottle. I cried when Monsignor Quinn, who greeted us and said, “Well at least you got everything in a pick-up! That makes life easy!”
Make sure you go to the “Safety” meeting in Fordham Prep’s auditorium this way you already have a seat to hear Fr. McShane’s welcome speech.
Welcome to the “Ramily”. My daughter graduated this past May and I just check in here every now and then to give some help. Good Luck!
In general, Fordham is slow, especially ResLife. My best advice is to just wait it out and not to get too stressed about it. You will have plenty of time to get everything together and figure things out before move in, trust me. I got really stressed about all the waiting before my freshman year and it was definitely not worth it. Once you get there, it really doesn’t matter if everything is perfect or not. It’s a dorm room, not a Hilton suite. If all their stuff fits, that’s a victory. If they forget something, it’s a learning experience. I spent weeks making lists and consolidating all my stuff for college, and then I forgot my wallet! My mom had to mail it to me, it was a funny story to share during orientation! Let me know if your kids have any questions!
Hey all! So I have been equally anxious about finding out my dorm info. While working out how to register for classes I had a technical difficulty and had to submit a email through the IT forum thing. anyways, when submitting my question to IT it had my name, student number and also LOCATION which was marked as Loshert and then my room number. IDK if it’s actually correct but maybe fordham already has this info and hasn’t released it quite yet. So if you want to see your dorm and room number, just go to submit a request with IT by going to my.fordham.edu and then tech help tab
Thanks lilaba!! My girls tried this as soon as they got up, and didn’t have the correct password/login. When they called, they were told they didn’t/won’t have access to IThelp until next week.
Perhaps others were onto this as well. Oh well, I guess they will just have to wait!
Thanks!
The “Tech Help” link was working today, and my girls were able to see their room assignment/dorm. Now we just wait to see if it is a triple…
Quite the “backdoor” you found there lilaba!
@flute1298 and @lilaba. Thanks for the tip! I’ve passed it along to my son, but I don’t know if he’s going to try it or not.
One twin got her housing email today…the other did not. They are living together ( and it does not appear to be a triple)…so go figure. St John’s Dorm…they are happy!!
@flute1298 He’s in Martyr’s so that is kind of a bummer…finger’s crossed that it’s not a triple!
@aimster888 - at least he’s on the first couple of floors. My daughter was on the 4th floor which made move-out exhausting. My daughter also had the “luxury” of living there for two years and during every summer session.
One thing about Martyr’s is that he will have AC. It’s close to the food places in Queens Court. In the spring, make sure he has earplugs for Spring Weekend. Sound check is usually around 8:00AM.
I hope he isn’t in a triple also. It’s a tight squeeze.
Another way to check if there are room mates is to check the housing portal. Maybe that has been updated also. Never did it, but it might be worth a shot!
@aimster888 - did he still NOT get the email? My girls got the official email yesterday around 4pm. At the bottom, it listed the roommate. Good Luck…I hope it is a double for him!
@flute1298 and @MomTheChauffer He got the email this morning and it is a double (which is great news) and he received his roommate information. He’s reached out via Facebook and the funny thing is that although they attended different schools, they are from the same home town, That should make it easy to meet and coordinate dorm stuff before move in day.
