Freshman Rooming at ASU

I’m attending ASU next year as an engineering major and am unsure of what dorms to choose. Online I can only choose between Palo Verde East and Center. I applied to Barrett Honors with a friend and was going to room with him at Barret but I didn’t get in sadly.

Is there any way I can room at Barrett as a non-honors student? Some people have said you can. If not Barrett I’ve heard the Hassyampa dorms are pretty new and a fun social place to live. Any feedback about the Palo Verde East/Center dorms and if there is a significant difference between the two would be awesome, or if anyone knows how I could transfer to the Barrett or Hassyampa dorms as an engineer major let me know!

As far as I know, ASU is pretty strict about students living in their assigned dorms based on major so I wouldn’t put any money on getting into Hassy. Unless you switch your major to exploratory or go undeclared for your freshman year, you won’t be able to live there.

I have two friends going into engineering at ASU next year; one chose to live in PV Center and the other chose PV East. PV center has more kids, but PV easy was just recently remodeled and is supposedly very nice.

About Barrett: They never manage to fill the dorms because there aren’t enough honors kids, therefore they offer it to non-honors kids (as long as they’re willing to pay extra). I heard that mostly people from Manzanita were offered Barrett but I’m not sure. Availability might be difficult though, it probably won’t be an option until all of the honors kids have enrolled so they can determine how much space is left. Keep your ears open I guess!

There was no problem getting a non-honors roommate into the Barrett dorms until this year. This year they are saying “no way.”
