Freshman rooms/bathrooms

Seeing as I'm a junior, I find it ridiculous that I have to be making this thread.

Anyways, Northeastern is awesome and put me in a Freshman building with communal bathrooms (love having to do this for another year) - What are the rooms like? What are the bathrooms like/showers?

They wouldn't let us see the rooms when I visited.

Plus, is there a floor plan for White Hall?

I’d love to find out the same above for White Hall. There seems to be hardly any info about it.

All the information I could find on White Hall:

I love how they don’t even put the transfers who are supposed to get upperclassmen housing in the nice freshman dorms. They just throw them into the crappy ones far away from civilization.

Also, how very convenient for them that they didn’t have upperclassmen rooms available so they put them in required meal plan housing so they now have to pay an extra 3000+ a semester for food.

Greedy. greedy. greedy.

I’m starting to regret my decision to go here.

I’m a 3rd year transfer in kennedy hall. Looks like placing transfers in freshmen housing is the new thing. F.

White hall really isn’t bad at all.

It is pretty much in the center of campus, and right across from the Marino Center.
Also, the rooms are a good size, bigger than the other freshman dorms. The bathrooms are not great, but are fine.

I know that’s not too specific but if you have any other questions feel free to ask i can probably answer them.

Yeah, White is one of the best dorm locations actually.

And sorry, but there are already upperclassmen in the upperclassmen dorms. We have waiting lists, and transfer housing isn’t offered to everyone so they put you where they have space. If you hate it, go off campus.

I think the biggest problem with transfers being in freshmen housing is that they were not told it was an option prior to being assigned there. I have a friend who just received her housing the other day and was furious because she called housing months ago and was told that because she had deposited early, she was guaranteed a space. However, they did not tell her that space could be in freshmen housing. Because transfers just got this assignment the other day, finding off campus housing is now going to be a huge hassle when they could have been looking for months had they been told it was a possibility they would be placed in freshmen dorms as upperclassmen.

Being an upperclassmen who went through the traditional housing process, I completely understand that transfers should not be given priority over those who spend their first years at northeastern. I just don’t feel that they should have been kept in the dark for months about their housing and then told last minute that they were placed in housing that any upperclass student would be upset about. Sorry transfers, I feel for you. If it helps, try taking advantage of the room change period.

I second that neu0913 !!

My son, a sophomore transfer, was also assigned to freshman housing. Because he got his deposit in early, he was also told for months that there would be no problem getting housing, but nobody ever mentioned that it would probably (or even possibly) be freshman housing. If he’d known, he could have made an informed decision whether to deal with the freshman housing or look for off-campus housing. As it is, there’s just no time. He’ll just have to make the best of it, I guess.

Ouch. I’d be ****ed if I were put into freshman housing as a transfer.

There’s usually a lot of moving around the first few days of school… could be possible to be switched into an upperclassmen dorm, but neuchimie is right, upperclassmen dorms have long waiting lists. If you wind up stuck in a frosh dorm, it’s really easy to find a spring semester apartment because so many upperclassman study abroad/co-op in other places.

If dorm changes are not possible, try to look at the positive side of being with other students who are also new to campus.

Dorm changes are actually a few weeks in. They don’t let you move right away to try and make you get along or whatever… But above is correct about how it’s easy to get a Jan apartment. There are less than September, but they are much easier to get. If you do get into that situation, make sure you start looking as early as you can.

Does anyone know if washing machines (esp. in White Hall) are high-efficiency washers? or just normal?

Most say they are high-efficiency. They have those stickers on most of them warning you to not use as much soap, which everyone just does anyway.
