Freshman Schedule- Don't know which classes to take and which to avoid

Hey everyone. I will be attending Berkeley in the fall as pre-economics or business administration major, and I’m wondering if my schedule will be too tough to manage or if I am even allowed to take some of the classes I want. If anyone here has had prior experience with the courses listed or even know someone who took those courses, I would appreciate the help.

First Semester
-Math 1B
-Econ 2 OR Econ 100B (Econ 100B is if I get a 4-5 on both Econ 1 and 2, and I’m confident I can get a 4-5 on both)
-History 167C
-Reading Comprehension Requirement (I’m sure I wont get a 5 on AP Lit)

Second Semester
-Math 53 or Statistics 21
-History 171C
-UGBA 10
-Breadth Course

So, I’m pretty much worried about the calculus series (1B I heard is notorious), if I can take History 167C and 171C (both are courses which fascinate me greatly), and if intermediate econ courses are too hard for a first year.

Thanks for all the help!

You can check the Math 1A final exams at https://math.berkeley.edu/courses/archives/exams and https://tbp.berkeley.edu/courses/math/1A/ to check your knowledge of the Math 1A material before taking Math 1B.

Note that business requires a 5 on both AP economics exams to be exempt from Economics 1 or 2.

If you prefer a more math orientation in economics, you may want to consider Economics 101A and 101B instead of 100A and 100B (after completing the math prerequisites).

I’m not sure if this has changed, but two years ago the policy of the economics department was that 100/101A/B were reserved for sophomores and up. Also, Econ 2 (which, like Econ 1, covers both intro micro and macro) is only offered in Spring.
