My daughter is trying to plan her schedule and many of the classes she is interested in are already full. She is attending the Honors Bama Bound session July 9-10th. Are these classes actually full, or does the school reserve spots for later Bama Bound Dates?

Thank you

If they’re freshmen level classes (100 level) then most likely they’re holding seats back for future BB sessions. Take a look at the Fall 2011 schedule and compare class size to get an idea of whether a class is really full or if they’re just holding seats back.

The frosh classes aren’t full. The spots are held back for each BB. The school has to do this otherwise upperclassmen might grab too many spots.

However, if she’s trying to get into a non-frosh class, then that class may be full. For those wanting non-frosh classes, it can be harder to get those classses for Fall, but for Spring and later, getting those classes won’t be a big issue.

Which ones is she looking at?

She is looking at Intro to Accounting 201, and Intro to Italian 101

Honors AC-210 is probably capped out at 80. There is currently one open seat. Quite amazing since in fall of 2011 it only offered 48 seats in honors accounting and there was still a seat open. The Business school must be getting a lot more honors students.

If you don’t require honors AC-210 then sections 2 & 3 will increase by approx 40 seats and cap out at 160 instead of the current 120.

IT-101 currently shows 15 seats with 9 openings. Fall 2011 shows the class will eventually cap at 20 seats but there should be several spots available as 4 remained open last year.

BTW, Prof McKinney is great. If AC-210 fills up then email her and ask for an override. She’ll grant it as long as there is no rule that honors classes have to be capped at a certain level.

Intro to Accounting 210 is a sophomore level class… I doubt any more spots will open up.

Italian 101 normally has 30 students/class, so they’ll probably open a few spots for each BB. Have her keep checking throughout the summer (after her BB) and there’s a good chance that a student or two will rearrange their schedule, opening spots for students like your daughter :)

Since the acctg class isn’t a frosh class, that may be hard to get into for Fall. your D may have to just keep checking (late at night) for seats that become open. (Kids often drop classes/change schedules at night). The Italian class is a frosh class, so those seats will open.
