So here's what I have tentatively lined up and would be the ideal freshman schedule for me.

Computer Programming I (4)
Calculus I (4)
Intro to Sociology (3)
Books that Matter (1) (A special course for selected students that dissects books chosen by faculty each week).
Freshman Experience Course (1)

Totals 13 credit hours... totally doable right? I'm sticking on the low side for two reasons. 1) Time-wise, I can afford to, having no general education requirements and 2) I plan to get involved in a variety of things on campus and am the kind of person that'll need some flexibility to adjust in my first semester.

How’d you manage to have no gen ed requirements?

But yeah, 13 credits is totally doable even though CP and calc won’t be super easy classes, it’ll be offset some by your freshman experience course which I can pretty much guarantee will be a complete joke, intro to soc is pretty easy and books that matter shouldn’t be too much work since it’s only 1 credit.

You should be fine, but remember you still have to study for your tough classes or you could fall behind.

I would suggest, since you have a light courseload, adding some easy 1 credit courses that could help you in the future
ex) Intro to matlab, or something that interests you

It’s a perk UM offers to their top students to allow us to completely customize our undergraduate education and make the most of it.

Thanks for the input. I imagine Calc I should be fine for me since I took AP Calc AB last year (and got a 4) and BC this year… I’m not using any of my credit because I just want to get a solid foundation in it.

I was thinking of this too, but couldn’t really find a 1 credit course that I’d like to take. I figure I’ll be able to stock up on credit hours in the second semester when I figure out what I can handle (surely more than 13 once I adjust).

Looks like an easy schedule. For the Books that Matter class how many books do you have to read? If it’s one a week or whatever then that’s going to take up a lot of time on top of the books you might have to read for Sociology.

Integral Calculus (4)
Modern Physics: Waves, Optics, Quantum and Classical Mechanics (4)
Physics Lab (1)
EE 101 and Lab (2)
Intro To Programming and Lab (4)
Sculptural Ceramics (2)
Freshman Year Experience (1)

Programming is an easy A. (7 years of programming experience)
EE 101 should be an easy A.
So is Ceramics. But why ceramics? Cause I need a stress relieving class.
I am not worried about Calculus.
Physics: I am worried about that. That’s a Sophomore level physics for physics majors. Why am I taking it? Cause it’s freaking cool. I am currently in Physics C, I am sure I got at least a 4 on each test today.

You take AB and then BC and now calc 1? So essentially, it is going to be the third time taking calc 1? Wow. And why would you take both AB and BC? Were not allowed at y school. You can’t even take honors pre calc and then take AB. Well you can but you don’t get credit for the first semester. But that is crazy that you are taking calc 1!!!
