freshman schedule

i'm planning on taking these courses for fall 2009:
ieor 24
e 10
math 53
sociology 3ac

i want to take one more class but i'm not sure which one:
chem 1a
or
german r5a (i'm 5th on the wait listfor this class and doubting that i'll get in)

is two humanities such as sociology 3ac and another humanities overkill or should i just stick with chem 1a?
btw, that would be 16 units.

i am taking german r5a i think im 1 or im not on waitlist anymore lol. many friends told me it is fairly easy and not a bad class to take as it fulfills the R1A which i haven’t finished.

-skoodu

Most people on the waitlist will get in. As long as the waitlist isn’t like 10+ as long as you’re on 1-7, 8 or maybe 10 is fine. And usually a couple people drop.

Definitely German. Otherwise, you will die. E10 and Math 53 is a lot in one semester, but doable. Not if you add chem on top there.

When I was in German R5A Fall 08, only one person got off the waitlist once class started…

I guess it depends on the instructor… the limit on schedule said 17 but in the end the class size was 25. our instructor just let pretty much everyone on the list. he said as long as there’s seats it’s good.

right now before phase II, i’m worried i won’t be able to get into german r5a because i doubt 5 people (or even one person) would want to drop that class.

so it looks like chem 1a instead, on top of e10 and math 53 would not be advisable?

^
Did you not read my post? I said in many instances the instructor lets most of the people off the waitlist. The instructor has the power to increase the limit of the class size.

Plus last year I got into chem 1a after 2 weeks into the semester.

up to you

yeah, but i was just wondering if i should sign up for chem 1a also, just in case i don’t get into german r5a?

how should i phase II my classes if i want to have chem 1a as my backup?

bump bump…

How many units do you have without chem 1a and german r5a?

i’ll only have 12 units without it which i don’t think is enough, meaning i probably want to take another class.

can someone help me?

i just phased ii my classes and my total units including waitlist (waitlist for german r5a which is 4 units) is 16 units which is the maximum allowed.

because i need a backup in case i don’t get into german r5a, i want to sign up for chem 1a but am not allowed to because i am already at the maximum of 16 units allowed for undergrads.

how do i register for chem 1a? and does that mean i have to attend both chem 1a and german r5a lectures for the beginning of the school year until i find out if i get in from the waitlist?

I doubt you will get into German 5RA. That class has a reputation for being the easiest R&C so very few people drop it let alone 5.

which is why i have a backup of chem 1a but if the instructor is nice enough, hopefully i can get in, but can anyone help me answer my question above calbear 2012’s post…my phase ii is quickly approaching?

The thing is that you don’t necessarily need people to drop in order for you to get in. Some instructors allow the waitlist people to add into the class despite schedule of classes says the class is capped at 17. This happen to me to german r5a and r5b. my r5a class size was 25. r5b was only 17 but that’s because no one else was on the waitlist.

my problem right now, however, is that i want to sign up for chem 1a just in case but i can’t because i’ve already signed up for the maximum number of units, so what am i supposed to do?

does that mean i have to attend both chem 1a and german r5a lectures during the school year before i find out if the instructor will allow the waitlists to be officially enrolled?

you have to wait til adjustment period to sign up for chem1a. that or drop one of your other courses and sign up for that during adjustment period.

yes, you attend both. especially german r5a and chem lab. you can webcast chem1a lectures.
