Freshman Seminars

Can students from this or last year recommend some good seminars? Or good teachers?

'nough said.

i'd like to know this as well. any favorites other than kaplan?

UI've heard really great things about the anime one offered by the math department (if they're offering it). Generally the topics are so varied that everyone will find one they would absolutely die to get into. Sadly, those are frequently hard to get into.

Look at Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences website which sponsors the freshman seminars (if you're a non-Weinberg student, you may not be able to enroll.).

Smutko (for the second Astro class) is an amazing professor for Modern Cosmology (it was a huge lecture when I took it last year) and I heard he's even better in a smaller seminar environment. If you are interested in astronomy and are considering living in Shepard, that would be a good seminar to take.

I'm in Stuelpenegal's poli sci 390 class on Press, Politics and Presidential Campaigns now and it's pretty interesting and not too much work. I'd imagine the freshman seminar version is similar so if you're interested in politics and want a good but laid back class that would probably be a good choice.

Sharma (under Asian American studies) is also supposed to be an amazing professor. I've never taken a class with her, but I've been to group discussions that she's participated in and she has a really interesting perspective on a lot of issues. If you are at all interested in issues of race/race relations, I would definitely suggest putting her seminar near the top of your list.
