I’ve been hunting around for an answer on the site but I haven’t gotten a definite answer.
How difficult is it for an incoming freshman to get a single plaza shared bathroom? That was my preference number one, and my second was a classic single. I opted for it because I prefer to have a space for myself in the midst of such a populated school, and my parents were willing to pay the extra for the single housing.
If I am completely doomed at my chances for single housing, how likely would it be for me to be assigned a double plaza?
We were told at Bruin Day (and there were several posts saying the same) that all freshman will get triples. No singles or doubles available for freshman. I suggest you join the fb page and start looking for roommates that might make the living arrangements easier. The rooms are tiny and cramped!
Hello! I’m one of the housing tour guides and @gratefulmama is correct. Starting with the Class of 2021 all freshman will be in triples. The only room types available are classics, plaza shared, plaza private, and suites. Doubles, singles, and deluxes are all gone. Singles are typically reserved for RAs. The single shared bath in Rieber are almost exclusively for NCAA athletes. It’s very possible to have privacy in a triple or double. The class of 2021 Facebook group is a good place to look for roomates. Because you ranked singles first students who preferenced triples will have priority over you. Because of that expect a classic triple. I’m in one now and it’s fine. In fact many people on my floor are returning to classic triples because of the socialness.
Ahh okay. Just got my housing offer and yes it is a triple. I at least got a plaza triple, but in Hedrick Summit which I heard is very far away. I might request a change of building.
Thank you to you both!
So just to clarify, even if I requested single/double housing when filling out my CAR, I would not get it?
Yes you would not get it. Also you cannot request a change of building. You will have to mutually switch with someone or go to Room Swap third week in the fall. Room swap is also mutual.
@10s4life thanks for your help!
Yo, I’m going to be a senior next Fall. I’m currently living off campus with some really great folk, but I’ve realized I need my own place. I’m 100% dead-set on living alone and do not want to consider having roommates. How hard is it for a senior to get a single? Would you know of any ways to increase my chances of getting one? Or is my best option trying to live off-campus?
@Xenmas021 you should make a new thread for stuff like this. But to answer your housing guarantee only lasts 3 consecutive years. This means you are not guaranteed housing. This also means almost all singles will be gone as they go to RAs, athletes, and those with disabilities. You will most likely not get a spot as the hill is overcrowded. If you do it won’t be a single. Start looking for apartments.
