Freshman Statistics Classes

<p>Hi, I'm an incoming freshman to Pitt and I had a question about statistics courses available to freshman. I am coming as a premed, and I was looking through the online catalog when I saw that there are two stat courses that I could take:</p>

<p>Basic Applied Statistics and Applied Statistical Methods.</p>

<p>I know that statistics is useful on the MCAT and some med schools recommend it. Also, I'm interested in doing research at Pitt and it seems to me that having a statistics course under my belt would be useful for that also.</p>

<p>Taking this into consideration, can anybody tell me which one would be better to take? Apparently Applied Statistical Methods goes into much more detail, but is this extra knowledge worthwhile for a premed student in my situation?</p>

<p>Biology and biology-related majors usually have, for their math requirement within their major, Calc 1 and then the choice of either Applied Statistical Methods or Calc 2. Though I haven’t taken applied statistical methods, just from knowing that I would think applied stats methods is the one to take if you are premed/want to participate in science research.</p>

<p>I would also post the course descriptions for both stats classes here, since I remember applied stats methods had a much more scientifically-minded description, but the website seems to be acting strange right now.</p>
