Freshman Summer Orientation

Hey. Ill be an entering freshman in the fall of 2010. I was wondering if you needed your parents to attend if you were under 18? I heard you needed to have them there on the first day to sign some papers? Also, what will we be doing at orientation??

I heard there was an online form parents could sign if you’re not yet 18.

Also, if you don’t sign up for housing during summer orientation, can you sign up for it later?

Thats what I am wondering because my parents cannot attend due to work. I was wondering if i could fill these papers out later or do they HAVE to attend?

Parents do not have to attend with you.

If you’re under 18, in order to get you’re ID you’ll either have to have your parents there to sign the papers for you, or you’ll be able to print the papers online, go to a Notary Public have your parent sign there and the Notary Public authorize it. Anything you need to sign and have a parent sign can be downloaded and authorized at a notary public. I know, I was in the same boat. And other than that, there is an optional parent orientation, but it’s completely optional, and they are separated from you until the barbeque at the end of the day, then they are sent home and the night starts along with all the orientation parties. Just don’t black out ;)

alright thanks sooooooo much!
where can i get these papers???!

By orientation parties you mean, actual parties right? Not parties that the school hosts for orientation or something.

yeah, i mean actual parties, there are school hosted stuff that some people go to, but generally at around 10pm or 11 most of the orientees are in west campus for the first time lol. and about the papers, they should be somewhere on the site, i forgot where though, so you’ll have to look a bit…but they are there.

alright thanks. is it on the site for the orientation?

<a href=“UT EID - Upgrade My UT EID - Upgrade Your UT EID”>UT EID - Upgrade My UT EID - Upgrade Your UT EID;

Is that the only form?

There was only 1 form last year. Also, you don’t have to wait until orientation. I went with my son to campus when he had a scholarship interview in April. Since we were both there, he upgraded his EID and was even issued a UT student ID card. He really enjoyed showing it to get student movie discounts instead of his HS ID -especially since he was 17 at the time.

hahahhaha alright! thanks again! i just printed it and im going to fill it out soon. i just bring that to orientation and my lisence to get my id and register for classes?

Yes -If you are at least 18. If you won’t be 18 by orientation, you’ll have to submit the notarized doc or go in person with a parent to upgrade the EID.

yeah, but registration doesn’t take place until the last day of orientation.

alright. im going to mail it in with it notarized. will that work? i wont be 18 until july and im attending orientation june 15th.

The remote-upgraded EID is temporary (3 mos). You can only get a temporary upgrade 1x, so you may want to wait, or plan to visit with a parent before orientation.

alright. so since i printed this already, it expires in 90 days. i guess ill wait at least 60 and then send it in. so then the 3 months will last till june. also, do classes fill up quickly?
