I'm a freshman at a top LAC and was wondering how other freshman's summer plan searching has gone. How are you finding your plans/job/internship? How critical is it to have a good summer job or internship or plan?

University of Chicago, two classes for Core (Gen. Ed) requirements, economics research (read: making coffee, filing papers) for work study, possibly a summer econ program if I can get in.

For freshman, not critical, but still important.
I’m planning on doing that cheapo volunteer across the world thing (volunteers for peace) because it’s cheap and sounds fun.
then I’m going to email a ****load of labs to intern in

I go to UArizona, and the summer after freshman year, I interned in a lab. It was easy to find since my school makes information about internships pretty obvious, and I knew the professor who organizes the program I work with.

I don’t think research was NECESSARY during that summer, but I’m really glad I did it since it gave me more insight into what I wanted to continue onto and whether or not to apply for the lab again.

I’m living at my university for the summer and working on campus in the Bio department and taking summer classes. I looked into internships but I didn’t end up applying to any.

I’m just finding it really hard to find something. I worked at a bank last summer and am trying to see if they’ll take me again.

How can I find unpaid internships? Do your colleges really help you out in finding summer plans, like basically throwing stuff at your door? I thought it would be like that, I thought there would be a lottt of stuff.

Have 2 jobs lined up. I filled out a transfer application to USF for the Summer, but I haven’t recieved a decision yet. If I get in i’ll obviously be taking summer courses as well. I applied for a paid internship the other day and if I get it i’ll start at the end of summer in the fall semester.

I’ll be working as an Orientation Leader at my school. I’ll be doing Javelina Camp. It’s an “extended orientation program.” Its like a fish camp.

Well… I WAS going to go to Russia to study abroad, but now that that fell through and it’s too late to line anything else up… I’ll probably be working at a local gas station and taking a literature class through my CC. ■■■, hard. Why’s life so unfair? >_<

I didn’t think I would have much luck finding an internship, plus I’m an undeclared major, so I’m doing a 2-month summer program through my university that combines working at a nonprofit with taking classes and seminars.
