Freshman Summer Start Program

Who received and invitation to apply? Do you plan on applying? I plan on applying to the "Summer Bridge" program but was just curious to know if you have any knowledge on how this event is run. I think this is a great opportunity to get accustomed to college hopefully I'll have the chance to attend.

No way! So you have to be chosen to do the program?

Not entirely sure if candidates are “chosen” but I received a simple postcard from the university asking to apply if I have any interest. I think anyone can apply. This is the link that was provided on the postcard if you want to know more  http://summer.uci.edu/fssp/

I got a card too! Is that part of EOP or no?

Oh cool! I believe it’s two separate programs, however I may be mistaken. Do you plan on applying?

I’m actually still deciding between a couple of other schools and UCI, but the program sounds very exciting!

Past participant here~

The program is pretty cool but also expensive. I must say, it prepared me mentally and emotionally for the amount of partying that I’d encounter the following fall. There is not much to do during the day except explore opportunities at UCI, since all the student orgs are not running in the summer (hence the partying). I suggest doing at least 2 classes + the FSSP ones to keep you busy. It will really help to take summer courses and get ahead! If I could go back, I’d take a writing course because those really sucks up your time during the fall/spring/winter when there’s so much to do.

Just curious, but how much was the program? it sounds like quite an experience though!

Is Summer Start similar to Summer Bridge? Also, is Summer Bridge free? I know you have to pay 120 dollars to reserve a spot, but after that, is it guaranteed to be free if you have a low EFC?
