The way you’re headed right now, you’re going to regret a lot more than not taking enough APs. If you really think all this **** you’re planning is all that high school is about, you are sorely misinformed.

I go to a VERY competitive high school, and I knew a lot of kids a lot like you when I was a freshman. Most of them fell hard. VERY hard. The ones who succeeded were the ones who were nonchalant, enjoyed life, and cared about much bigger, greater things.

You’re in over your head, kid.
Go live your life. I hope you get it before it’s too late.

Holy *****! You are a mature girl. My suggestion is to be to not worry about the college stuff now. You’ll get stressed out too early, but you seem to have an idea already Freshman year that most kids don’t get to Junior year -> Work hard and get your good grades. Just because it’s Frosh/Soph year doesn’t mean it’s not on the final GPA. So my suggestion for the next 2 years: Take the hardest possible schedule, and work hard. Don’t worry about college.

Thanks SLightMaifesto :)

(Most of) you guys got the wrong picture.

I already do almost everything I mentioned on the first page. I play tennis competitively. I’m in a few plays at school and the community theater. I’m doing a few hours of community service a week. I already play the piano and guitar. I dance already. I already take acting classes. I’m already teaching my self Japanese (I know 800 kanji), and I’m already well into writing my book.

Everything I listed on the first page are things I want to do for fun. Nobody is pressuring me to do anything. I want to promote honesty within my school, I run for honor council. I’m interested in Japan? Go study abroad. But since my parents won’t let me do that, maybe as an ambassador. They didn’t say no to that.

And I do care about the bigger things. That’s what I’m preparing for, and enjoying on the way (yes, at the same time). I love acting, Japanese, and Japan. So I’m going to Japan. I know I’ll succeed at any college: public, private, community college, university, Japan, or America. It doesn’t matter.

I’m the type of person who likes to do my best. I’m going to reach for the stars, but look at the clouds on the way up.

Let’s see what happens, eh?

Sorry for the rant above. But it’s all true.

diontechristmas was right.

okay… all I’m saying is that I’m doing stuff I like… isn’t that what I’m suppose to be doing?

You’re supposed to enjoy being a kid, not worrying about stuff that’s irrelevant at this point.

I’m sorry, but what gave the impression that I’m not enjoying being a kid?

I have no school today; I slept in to 9 AM, played Sims 3 expansion pack for 2 hours, going to see the blind side with my family today, see new moon with friends tomorrow… I think I live a pretty fun life.

You seem like a very bright and motivated person, which is wonderful. It’s good to have plans and goals so that you have an idea of where you’re headed and what you need to do.

However, like everyone else has said, you’re only a freshman. I’m a senior (almost finished with all my college apps.) I have several friends who spent their entire four years of h.s. stressing out about grades and college, and I can honestly tell you that they are NOT any more well-prepared or happy than the rest of us at this point. We have the same number of essays and apps to fill out, the same standardized tests to take, and the same waiting game to play while our letters come in. I would hate to be stressed out about all this stuff that, in the end, you don’t have complete control over, for four years.

So…all in good time.
Enjoy high school for high school, and try not to stress yourself out too much. The four years fly by! Work hard to keep your GPA up (because colleges do look at it), but be careful not to burn yourself out…I’ve seen it happen, even when people were really passionate about what they were doing. Like you said, do things because you enjoy them (not to put them on a resume) and you will do great.

Thanks Rose
Good luck with applications!

Just saying, I need to also take the EJU, Entrance to Japanese University. It makes sure you know enough Japanese to take college classes in Japanese… so that’s pretty stressful o.O

Thanks again, and hope you get into the college of your choice!

The fact that you’re on a website about colleges as a freshman.

anomaly is right. Depth, not breadth. Focus truly on one thing. Be sincere about it.
Well aside from that, just do well in your SAT’s and GPA. Umm… right now its hard for anyone to chance you. But that adoption seems like a good hook… Like what you learned and some hardships you faced… only if you really did. Be sincere in your application. Honesty is the best policy. =D. chance me anyone? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/810722-please-chance-me-these-colleges.html
