Freshman/Transfer????

I am graduating from medical school in two years. The school is outside the US (former Soviet Union republic). Now I am trying to figure out the list of colleges and the possibilty to apply. I wrote a letter to Yale admission office, and they responded that "I am no longer qualified for College admission". Is it gonna occur every time with every single university?
May I still apply as freshman?

Right now you would be a transfer applicant. You can’t apply as a freshman because you have already been in college for several years.

After you finish medical school, if you want to change fields completely, some colleges and universities would admit you for a “second bachelor’s degree” as a transfer applicant.

If you want a career in medicine or the biological sciences, you should complete your medical degree where you are, and then apply to graduate school in the US. Read through the information at [EducationUSA | Study Abroad, Student Visa, University Fairs, College Applications and Study in the U.S. / America](http://www.educationusa.info/) and then make an appointment with the counselors at the advising center closest to where you live [EducationUSA - Find an Advising Center](http://www.educationusa.info/centers.php) The people in that office will be able to help you learn more about your options.

You would not be a fr applicant for any US school.

How many years have you been in school? Is med school your first degree or did you complete another degree before entering med school in your country (as we do here)?

Overall, medical school is six years. And we enter it right after high school. I have been in med school for four years, I still have two more + a year spent in the US as an exchange student (pre-med).

I am looking for admission in the US because of the general education. Religion, phylosophy, psychology are not those super important courses here. I am trying to enrich my academic experince, my knowledge of basic things like “what is life?”, “what is God?”, “what is my purpose?” Sounds tedious! Not for me.

As a career goal I am looking for a place with high density of pharm companies, place with exceptional internship opportunities (like working in reserch or drug manufacturing).

Your case is difficult because you have 4 yrs of college but no degree, and whether or not you can apply as a transfer likely varies with the school.

There are other schools like Y that require transfers to spend at least 2 yrs on campus and will not accept a student who has already been in college more than 2 yrs. But there are also those that will accept students with more than 2 yrs, but they will only carry over 2 yrs of units. For instance, I think UPenn is one of these:

Entomom, thanks for your response. Yes, it’s quite difficult to get transfer admission, even to be eligible for transfering. The most aggravating point here is the wierd credit transfering procedure. There are no syllabi for the courses here, and we have “pass/fail” system for some of the courses. And I am not sure are those courses are going to be accepted by universities in the United States.

If you complete your medical school where you are, and you still would like a chance to do a year or two of liberal arts type studies, there are a few Master’s degree programs in Liberal Studies. Here are links to information about them:

Since you are interested in a career in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry, I would suggest completing your current degree program, then looking for an internship in a lab at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, or at the Max Plank Institute in Germany. There also are good research training labs in Japan and the Netherlands that also serve as feeders for the industry.
