How important is it for a freshman to have their car on campus? I know there is a bus service, but how often do people really leave campus with their cars?

Also, I noticed a lot of scooters on the campus. Is there a place where kids from out of state can lease them for a year?

Thank you!

We visited last month and got a tour from a family friend who is graduating now. He said that the bus system is excellent and takes you everywhere you need to go. He knew people who lived on campus without a car and did just fine.

Also, he did say that parking is terrible and getting worse, really a problem

Just heard from someone who was at a conference recently with UArk’s chancellor and heard him say they were seriously considering banning cars entirely for freshmen at the campus. Something to check on.

No idea about the scooters, although our friend did say that bikes were pretty much out because of the hills.

I would agree that there is a real shortage of parking. If you do bring a car, you will pay a lot of money just to have a parking place. The bus system is good, but if you live on campus it is much easier just to walk. Also, scooters are a very popular form of transportation for students.

I’ll be a senior at U of A this fall and have never had a car. You don’t need one, and I don’t want the hassles with parking either. Scooters are useful because the campus is hilly, so if you don’t want to give your legs a good workout on a frequent basis, a scooter or motorized bike is the way to go. Have fun being a Razorback!!
