Freshman year, first semester: what classes to take?

And how many?

Could anyone explain the credit system to me, I honestly have no clue on how it works.

over 20. You’ll drop out in no time. hehe

Classes depends on what you want. We’re not your parents…
Units: about 13-14. 15 if you really want it. (Seriously. Taking less units first semesters isn’t gonna kill you. Besides, it’s actually real fun to have downtime and hang out with the newfound buddies. You have to realize though that you might not have the chill time in the future anymore hehe)

Each class basically has a set number of units (most have 4, but varies for .5-6). Higher the number, the more the work in the class (though not necessarily difficulty I don’t believe.

This year, they’re putting a stop to signing up for a bunch of classes, so once you hit 16 units (an average of 4 classes) you can’t add anymore. (The limit was 20 for L/S previously)

i took 18 and failed 2.1gpa.

What they said about credits is right. As for classes, what are you interested in, what are you majoring in, what college are you in, etc. I may have some suggestions from experience.

going into LS college.

probably poly sci or humanities of some sort.

looking for some moderate work, but like junior year, but something akin to 1st semester senior year minus the college apps.

plus, dont i just take the basic classes the first year? and how do they calculate ap’s?

credit system. you need to fulfill your major reqs and 120 units.

so the APs and college classes don’t get factored into your GPA?

^ same question.

Also, I am considering going into poly sci, econ or business. What are the easiest courses to fulfill prereq, breadth, and other interest courses, in your experience?

What classes were the most interesting and what were the easiest? Etc,

I’ve heard that Math 16A, for example, is much easier than Math1A or 1B.

I did 16 units in FPF and it was the best semester I’ve ever had

I wouldn’t try more than 16 units of class. 15-16 is ideal; if it feels like too much you can always change a breadth course to P/NP

Maybe 17 if one unit is for a seminar.

bump
sorry, can anyone answer my question?

APs and CC courses do not affect your UC GPA.

They might look at your CC courses if you are using them to skip out of course for your major (e.g. if you took the equivalent of Physics 7A at a CC and you were an intended Physics major, they would look at what grade you got at CC when calculating your major GPA but not your overall UC GPA)

CC courses count toward GPA when you apply to medical school.

Thanks
So Med School looks at the UC GPA and the major GPA?

med schools look at gpa for all classes taken at berkeley, CCs, other UCs, and basically any courses you took outside of high school that you got a grade for. they calculate a science gpa and a overall gpa (science + all other classes).

Ok, thanks.
