If you’re taking eight classes, that would be six D’s and two C’s. That may not be failing but that’s not good at all.
The mantra in my household was “Upward Trend” because admissions officers told my daughter that while it’s best to have the consistent high grades throughout high school, they also like a strong upward trend.
Your case will be an extreme one but if you focus, you can pull your grades up. Colleges will be more likely to overlook a disastrous freshman year than a bad sophomore or junior year.
I’ll be blunt. Drop all EC’s except those related to football during your sophomore year because you need to concentrate on school:
Go to class
Do your homework.
Hand in your homework (on time).
Ask questions in class (just ask about whatever doesn’t make sense to you - D found out that many times the teacher didn’t make sense to others but they were afraid to ask).
It seems doing just those things will get you a C; in some classes, even a B. Going to class is the difference between a D and F. Class participation is often the difference between a C and a D, so ask those questions.
