Freshman year was bad...

This is my first time on this site.

I am generally a very high graded student with mainly As. But my first year of high school, after some trouble with bullies, I didn't have the greatest year.
But this year, I stopped this and think Ill do better.

Would colleges be happy if they saw good improvement? Also, can I get some tips to better? Mainly in studying and how to finish tests faster?

Welcome to CC
I’m sorry to hear about your cases of being bullied :frowning: Freshman year is tough for many people, so you’re not alone

Yes, colleges like to see a huge improvement.

If you’re struggling with a subject, go to the teacher for extra help. Not only does this show that you actually care about the class, but it also helps you to understand more. When you go home after school ends, start your homework right away. Don’t procrastinate and sleep early, because this will help you stay more focused during classes.

If you want to finish tests faster, try to read the questions faster. If you study more, it’ll be easier to recognize the questions and answer them quickly.
Here are a few tips to finish math tests faster:

 1. Do a lot of practice problems the night before. For example, if you have a test on factoring, print out a factoring worksheet and solve many factoring problems at home. If your answer is wrong, try to solve it again and see what you’ve done incorrectly.
 2. Learn to use your graphing calculator. Know where the important function buttons are, because this will save you time.

Hope this helped! Good luck!

Thx a lot!

No problem  Good luck in sophomore year! Im a rising sophomore too; we’re on the same boat lol

sorry about the bullies. but if they ever try to hurt you again, protect yourself
its ok, a lot of schools(princeton included) don’t look at freshman year grades, so you can still get into great schools even with a weak freshman year(don’t worry, I had a weak freshman year too, getting a B in ap bio )
good luck :D

Upward trends are always good! Don’t let people get to you and be the best that you can be, even though that may be hard sometimes. (:

I’m also class of 2016 - check this out: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/high-school-life/1325421-high-school-class-2016-a-306.html</a>. Everyone in that thread is super awesome and we’re all rising sophomores/sophomores already. I’m sure you’d find a lot of support and advice from everyone there, including me. Welcome to CC!

Always doing great is preferable, but an upward trend is also desirable.

I would think its pretty common to have trouble with the adjustment.

I love the person who had a bad year because of 1 B in AP Bio.

This is like my situation exactly… Here’s to a better year:)

to a better year!

wait, ilovediannaagron, your school allows freshman to take AP classes already? My school allows us to take AP’s in junior year :(

^well i skipped out of bio hns before freshman year so i could take ap bio…didnt know it would kill my gpa…presumptuous freshman… :(

At least we have three years to make up for what’s lost… It’s better that we recognize our faults now rather than junior/senior year

ohhh I see. and yeah! We can bring up our grades in soph/ jun/ senior years!

How many of us are softmores?

Sophomores

School is starting for me tomorrow… Pretty nervous:/
