Freshman year with a low GPA

I just got my First semester grades and I got a 2.8 GPA mostly my grades were A's, one C+, and a D- which it was in pre-calculus(It was because we have to take the math placement which due to my score they place me in there) During this time I so many things happening to me which caused depression...I had a good grade in that class until the exams which messed my grade all up. It's not a requirement for Computer Science but I want to retake it because I know I will do better and I noticed my improvement of my study skills and test skills (my weakness tests!)

I want to go to Harvard, MIT, Tuffs University, or Northeastern University for Grad School it was always my dream to get Masters because they way my mother and grandmother is living right now and struggling so I want to be successful and help both of them.

I wonder if I retake the pre-calculus course will the grad admissions understand that I wanted to improve and do better.

Do they care about the freshman grades or do they care about sophomore to senior year?

I want to start doing internships in sophomore year such as interning at the Boston Globe, Fidelity Investments, and the Microsoft Research Lab(I'm really interested in research!)
