Freshman Year

Hi,

So I am a freshman this year in high school and so far things have been going good except in my Algebra. II honors class. While I have straight A's in my other classes, right now I have a B+/A- in Algebra which is a problem because I think that later on, one my main extra-curricular activities that I will try to portray as my strength will be math team/competitions such as AMC competitions. I think I can do better in upcoming years but will colleges see it as a lack of motivation or hold a bad math grade against me? The reason I'm getting a bad grade is because on the tests the teacher always gives us too little time and I don't have enough time to check my work, and in particular this year a lot of people are doing poorly in that class. Will colleges actually care, or do they not really look a lot at freshman grades? I think I will want to apply to highly competitive school later on.

A B+/A- is not a bad grade I don’t understand why people on CC think it is. Anyway, freshman year isn’t weighted very heavily in the college admissions process.
