Does anybody know how much weight a college like USC puts on freshman year or if they even consider it? I didn't get the best grades freshman year but there was an upward trend sophomore year (All A's & B's and only 1 C in honors chem. 1 term.) I'm expecting there will be even more improvement this year (Mostly A's if not all in 2 AP's, 3 honors and I only have 1 college. prep math class)

bump (10chars)

go to the USC website and review their student profile...it will give you some hard numbers. You need to factor in unweighted GPA and SAT scores, etc. I didn't read enough on the website to find out if they factor in freshman year but I'm sure it is on their site....their admit rate is around 27%..

Bosox-
Like most colleges (except for UC's) USC weights all three years. It is also harder to get into then UC's of its caliber if you are CA resident because they do not put emphasis on residence in California. I believe their average GPA admit rate was 3.8 UW and test scores probably 2000+

Thanks.. I figured they did but I didnt see anything about it on the site. I know your stats have to be solid to get in and i know it's a reach.

I had C's from my AP chem and AP calc classes but I got in... I don't think focus on your freshman year as much (unless it was completely disatrous) just make sure you keep up your overall GPA...

Their average GPA was 3.8 and 2100 last year. The acceptance rate was 25% and it'll mostly go down this year... good luck....

I just found this on the website I can't believe I missed it "However, we realize that some bright students, for one reason or another, don't always get off to a great start in ninth grade. In these cases, special attention is given to steady and substantial improvement throughout the sophomore, junior and senior years."

Freshman year was pretty bad... Got D's in math but had a horrible teacher. Soph. year I got A's 3 terms and 1 B. Like I said, theres a great upward trend there. I did OK in everything else freshman year but not awesome. Sophomore year I did great and this year (junior) I expect to do awesome in basically everything. I'm taking 2 AP's (Sci. and History) 3 honors and 1 college prep math class. In all 4 years I'll have taken:

-4 years of science (1 college prep, 1 honor, 2 AP)
-4 years of english (3 honors, 1 AP)
-4 years math (3 college prep, 1 AP)
-4 years language (Spanish 1 & 2 only offered college, 3 is honors, and 4 will be AP)
-4 years history (2 college, 2AP)
-Required gym/health, computer & art electives. Will be taking academic classes next year (senior) instead of electives.
