So, I once grazed these confidential boards in search of my Musical Theatre dream school…and so i’m here to help now…now that i’m all grown up and in college.

So, Syracuse. It is quite lovely, i must say myself. In these past three weeks I have learned alot about myself, the department, and where i’ll possibly be in four years. Lemme break this down.

Ballet- So, it’s pretty kick ass. nuff said. If you’ve never had training before or you haven’t had training in a long time (like me) you should take some brush up classes before getting here. The teachers are VERY serious about it, from the tights to the leotards, to the classical hair bun…etc. Don’t mess withem cuz they are tuff.

Intro to Acting- It is divided into 4 classes. My 4 “CORE” classes are Acting, Voice, Movement, and Acting (differenct teacher and technique). This is three hours of your life on monday, wednesday, and friday. You rotate accordingly…etc. Movement is a mixture of aerobics, pilates, feldenkreist??(sp), etc. Acting is pretty self-explanatory…you memorize monolgues…scenes…do homework…etc. Voice is not singing but more about your personality and the personlaity of your voice on stage. Ok

Intro to Theatre- the TOUGHEST class yet…8books…but it’s sooo much fun…it’s not a lecture course but more of a discussion course. etc. you’ll see if you end up attending next year.etc

Music Theory- Self Explanatory

Musical Theatre Practicum- we discuss voice health as freshmen musical theatre students. We sing as an ensemble. It is SOOOO much FUNN!

Intro to Theatre Production- Talk about how to get Equity etc.

Theatre Lab- This takes place on Wednesdays. The ENTIRE theatre dept. Freshmen-Seniors, Design Tech, MT, Acting, and Stage Management Majors get together to have basicall a generall assembly. We get to meet actors who are working with Syracuse Stage (the LORT Equity Theatre attached to the Drama Dept.) and have general announcements and slideshows…etc

OK…so how is Freshmen year? Well, i love it so far. The weather is beautiful and the snow isn’t kicking my ass yet. There are about 15-20 MT majors soo you see alot of these few ppl. Everyone in the department knows each other. WE work in close relations to the Acting Majors. We ARE Actors like them…we just happen to waste our free time singing and dancing while they are free for the rest of the day…grr…no but seriously, the Acting majors have WAYY more free time than us…but it’s cool. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, post them here!! Thanks
