no way you have a worst shot at Wash U than Penn SAS...I know many many people who have gotten into wash u and not penn

Okay, and some people get into Penn and not Harvard--doesn't make Harvard less selective.

As a whole, acceptees at Wash U. have better stats than at CAS. Wash U. also has a lower acceptance rate.

sorry but im going to bump my question for dadizzle:

im still wondering about this "apply early" thing.

for ed to wharton (deadline november 1), what is early?

I think you said any time before the deadline? but i cant have understood you right because applications arent allowed after the deadline...or by that did you mean received any time before the deadline, because they only have to postmarked before the deadline.

i sent mine in about 3 days ago, is that going to hurt me?

thanks

Well, I know coming from PA makes a small difference, but I was very surprised at the tons of rejections our school had at the hands of Wash U. Kids with comparable stats. too, or I would have blamed it on the mass mailings we've gotten from them, possibly encouraging lesser applicants to apply. That wasn't the case though - they rejected top kids.

I'm also a freshman, except I'm taking Humanities classes in the college. To you applicants, don't go around thinking that Penn is all Wharton - Penn has some very amazing departments in almost every field. The classes I find aren't THAT challenging, but if you want all A's - you need to put in a lot of work. I don't do a lot of work, but when I do do work, I do it very intensely. Right now I'm borderline B+/A- in all my classes with grades I have so far. I'm taking Italian, Anthropology, Psychology and Religion. (I love me those social sciences)

I love the parties, but I only go out partying once a weekend, never both nights. The other night I'll just chill - sit around in my dorm's courtyard (Kings Court is the best dorm), and talk with friends. Or We'll go somewhere and have some sober fun. I also like staying out late - I usually come home around 2 on weeknights and 4 on weekends. But just last week, i think it was Tuesday, I wasn't in the sleeping mood, and didn't get back to my place until 7:30 am. A lot of people here seemed to care a lot about the dorms. I don't think there is a bad dorm at Penn... well I think Hill sucks, but Hill people seem to like it. The girls are very good, but I've found the hottest of the hot are tottally unapproachable.

Someone asked about it, and there are definite communities for minorities here - even though some definitiely aren't minorities here. For an example of a minority group, the other day on Locust Walk a group was advertising their Indian dancing.

the advice to apply early does not have a date. obviously you cant send an app in after the deadline. in my opinion the earlier you send in your app the better. there is really no specific date though other than the official deadline.

the reason to send in an application early is bc the first ones recieved are the first ones read. think about it would you be in a better mood on the 20th app you read or the 20000th. also the more and more apps that are read the more and more you loook like someone who got in ahead of you. you may be passed over bc of this. that is why i recommend that you send in your apps early if possible

I've heard that the language centre at Penn is awesome. Can someone tell me more about it? Do you take classes or is it something you do "extracurricular-ly"? How many languages can be reasonably taken?

what percent of wharton is asian?

I dont really know much about the language center here on campus...I know there are many languages offered for study. I will find out about that for you guys....

I don't know the exact percentage but there is definitely a good percentage of asians in the Wharton Undergraduate student body

dadizzzle, just curious, do you know anybody at wharton or upenn that have SAT scores below 1400?

yep i know quite a few people....actually one of my good friends got a 13 something....

Hill House is good only because it has a dining hall and it's in a pretty good location for freshman. Otherwise it's too small. But, it's a convenient place. Right now I am glad I did not get the Quad even though it was my first choice. Although, it would be nice to have more room.

Dadizzle, what does your best friend have to compensate for the sub-1400 SAT score?

Well first he is from Australia so I am sure that helped....also he had a ton of EC stuff.....he wasa cadet in the australian army, captain of his debate team, played rugby for his high school (not playin in college), and his grades were really good, and he show an interest in business by his jobs at banks and finanical firms in Sydney...

Dizzle...

so it is possible to get in with an SAT 1300 + ? thats refreshing

DaDizzzzle69, you've been a great help, I've read all your responses

No problem guys all the questions you guys have I had in when I was in ur position last year...keep them coming....

Dizzle

What is your sense of whether it is really easier to get into CAS early decision. Is it a stronger or weaker applicant pool then? I've heard conflicting things.

1) There is a stronger pool in the first place. It is really not "easier" to get accepted, the statistics just show that way, because the superior applicants are applying then and getting in.

2) There is a weaker pool then, and that it is slightly easier getting in early.

Do you know, from being at Penn, which is true?

Well from the kids I have talked to who got in early it seems like your first idea is the right one.....most the kids I know who are in the college applied early and got in right away...or were deferred and got in regular.....FI you really want to got to PENN defintely apply early.....that is ur best chance cuz u essential have two chance to get accepted....
