Hey everyone. I know that a lot of you that applied ED are getting antzy but your responses should be in soon. For those of you who get in you are going to become a part of the best NYU Freshmen class in school history. I am an admissions ambassador at NYU and when I saw the mean GPA and SAT and some of the extra-curriculars of the average admitted NYU ED applicant I was blown away. Good luck to all of you smart and talented kids and I'll see you at orientation in the fall!
Way to go Class of 2009

could you check if my name is there? hahaha :) jk

askaboutNYU, it was reported in your school's newspaper that the number of applicants applying early decision increased by 500, with the greatest increase in CAS. What about stern? How much did the applicant pool increase? Plus, how many applicants will you accept to stern ED?

-- Thanks

NYU is reknowned for STERN so that particular school has always had a large amount of applications. As for as acceptances goes, CAS is the biggest school at NYU so they accept the most people. STERN will not except anymore people than years past both because they can't afford to as they are maxed out on space and also because by keeping their numbers small they can up their reputation and their incoming Freshmen profile. I imagine all the schools of NYU will engage in similar acceptance practices because NYU is pretty packed.

whats the mean gpa and sat?

well, could you tell us mean GPA and SAT although we already submitted our apps...we are just curious...very. lol

damn...i hate this feeling..

"NYU's admissions numbers have been looking pretty good lately. A record 3,300 high school students applied early decision to NYU this year, average SAT scores have risen past 1400, and NYU became the No. 1 "dream college" this year in The Princeton Review's annual survey."

I believe this is the info you guys are looking for...

actually, that's not what i was hoping to hear...more like...
past 1350 or something around there...

i hope...i got in...does anybody know how many ED applicants apply to the School of Social Work?

Well, the increase in applicants certainly does make me a bit worried...but the statement that the "average SAT scores have risen past 1400" doesn't really scare me too much, because aren't the Average SAT scores usually a LOT higher for the ED people? Aren't the people who apply ED usually the proverbial cream of the crop? They will go right back down after RD.
(I got a 1460)

holy crap! the us news had nyu average sat at 1210- 1410. 1410 would be its 75%. 2004 ED average SAT is above 1400 and above its 75%? What!?

what a waste of money...i should have not applied to nyu...something more like B.U. ... phuck...i am going crazy...if i get rejected...what do i do!

well...then a 1300 applicant will have better chances RD?????
wtf?!?! why did i apply ED then?! i thought it's better to apply ED for my stats are so low...

by the way, this girl i know got into CAS GSP...her SAT score is 1140...wtf...i should get in...i MUST get in

this is off da hook!

CaliHopeful - ED applicants are usually not as competitive as RD applicants. This is mainly because many RD applicants are applying because they were not accepted into their ED Ivy school.

RD is usually A LOT more competitive than ED for a variety of reasons. First off, there is more spots available in ED, whereas by RD time, a good portion of the class has already been filled. Since ED is a binding process, NYU will take some students early that would not get in had they applied later on simply because there are less people to take later on, so the school will even get more selective in who they accept. Applying ED and making NYU one's first choice also shows enthusiasm for the school...and that certainly counts for something in an applicant who would otherwise be borderline.

do they really care about essays as much as they say they do, like i dunno if my essay was good, will that get me rejected?

A so-so essay alone will probably not get you rejected if you are strong everywhere else, but make no mistake about it, the essay is a very important part of the process. The essays are taken very seriously and often serve as tie breakers between 2 equal candidates, and have the potential to become the factor that leads to someone's acceptance/rejection. A downright bad essay will certainly not put the odds in your favor.

i have 1520 sat and 3.9 gpa, top 1-2% of class, will that compensate?

jwblue, how competitive is the school of social work?

one more thing...since you worked at the admissions office...

i posted a question on the bulletin board and was answered by one of the admissions officers whom i contacted by phone, email, letters quite a few times regarding my applications via e-mail. i was surprised.

the question was nothing controversial or inappropriate...

i posted another question about 10 days later and was still not posted like the last time...but not even a personal email like the last time...

am i rejected??...is that why the nyu bulletin board moderator does not even bother to post my questions anymore?

did you ever see this happen while working there?

maybe you were just annoying them? they are very busy people

two posts annoyed them probably...
and it was her (the admissions officer) who sent me e-mails and calls...i didn't
