Freshmen Class Registration

When can we sign up for classes? I saw some people already signed up for intro classes for freshmen o_O Aren't we supposed to register at orientation?

your registration hold is released on the second day of your orientation session.

You can start building your Fall schedule though! You just commit anything.

I have a general question for registration. For those of us attending the first Orientation session we will be registering for classes in less than two weeks. And I don’t know about anyone else, but I feel completely clueless as to how this will all work and what my schedule will look like next year.

I know what I want to major in. What I don’t know is does that dictate completely what classes I will be taking next semester? Or will I have options?

I know that I am in Thematic Option. Again, however, I don’t know if that completely dictates what classes I am taking next semester or if I have options.

I know that I want to double major. Does that need to be factored into the whole registration process?

Is there room in the typical Freshman schedule to take general electives?

I’d really like to try to wrap my mind around some of these questions prior to Orientation so I can go in there at least somewhat educated on the scheduling process. Don’t most people try to build sample schedules in advance too? I’m not sure if anyone has explanations for how things work, or if you can point me in the right direction so I can find more information on the USC website. I (and perhaps others who don’t know what’s going on haha) would really appreciate it!

wymae- some freshman living in Hawaii have already registered for classes as the Hawaii registration was a few days ago.

@College182 - Orientation lasts two days. The first day, they’ll be going over what your schedule will look like and what classes you should take. The second day is when you register for classes. You can even bring a laptop with you to plan out your schedule ahead of time on the first night of orientation, but you’ll have about a half hour to play around with your schedule before you actually register during the second day.

Usually you won’t start taking your “double major” classes your first semester, but if it fits in your schedule - I’m sure you can if you want to. There is definitely room to be taking your GE’s. The first year of college, you’re usually taking all the prereq and GE classes for your core classes.
