I was wondering if someone with experience (i.e. a current or previous UNC student) can rank the freshmen dorms for me in order of most favorable to least. Walking far isn't a problem with me, so you can take location out of the equation...and if you know any unique characteristics for a building, please share. Thanks.

While your at it rank them by proximity. I’m lazy as ***** and i want a single. A pretty large one at that!

Aren’t singles hard to get, eltacogrande?.. Well, not that I know. I am hoping a UNC student will answer this question. But, then again, ranking dorms is very subjective. I would suggest you should tell them some of your preferences - loud and social, quiet, air conditioning, new, etc.

If a current student does answer this, can you please suggest to me some quieter dorms that are still in South campus? Or at least say which ones are loud so I can try not to get in those ones…

If you want a quieter South Campus dorm, try the directional dorms like Craige North, Ehringhaus South (Koury), Hardin, or Morrison South.

Just for clarification, Hardin and Morrison South are the same dorm. Horton is the other directional dorm.

Taco, if you ask for a single, you may get it. If you do, it will be in South Campus, probably in Hinton James. That would be bad for you if you want to be lazy. Any of the North Campus dorms are probably what you are looking for.
r
JG595116, what exactly are you looking for. There aren’t really any freshman dorms, so if you want to rank them, what do you want the dorms to be ranked on?

from a current student…

granville - party dorm. right by fraternity court/franklin street/bars. pretty much all greek. live here if you want to party and are DEFINITELY pledging a frat/srat.
if you want to party all day, every day (like pregame class, etc) go west. south is tamer. east is mostly sophomores.

north campus:
pretty much all the same. kenan community and cobb are nicer, but really hard to get as freshman and also a bit quiet/lame.
mostly sophomores and juniors–not really a freshman experience. REALLY close to classes/campus.

middle campus:
carmichael/teague/avery/etc - kind of small/random. not too social. some are kind of nice. wouldn’t really recommend. pretty close to classes though.

south campus:
hardin/craige north/horton - nicer, quieter, miles from campus
morrison - best south campus dorm. really nice, social, closer than others.
hinton james - social, farthest away from anything, but has a/c
craige/ehaus - social, far away, no a/c, pieces of ****. NO!

if you’re a big partier - go granville
if you’re a big studier - go north campus
if you want a pretty basic freshman experience (meet a lot of people, party some-study some, etc) - go south campus.

thanks ubetteraccept_me … that was helpful

Do freshmen have to room with freshmen?
