what dorms are freshmens usually in?..and are they really nice? i really like the segundo res hall.

links to pictures of them?

Check this out:

I live in Segundo and I'll just say it: YOU WANT TO LIVE IN SEGUNDO. The DC is nice (as is Tercero's), the location is perfect - in relation to both campus and downtown, and so on! Apply to live in Segundo!

I heard rumors about the dorms smelling like cows, is that true?

If so, how can I avoid it? :O

The Tercero dorms have a reputation for smelling like cows, but it's really not that bad in my opinion. Best way to avoid it: Segundo :-D

i love how modern segundo looks!..but how much of a chance will i get segundo?

The Cuarto dorms are really nice too. They are older, but they are suite style so you have semi-private bathrooms. Most of them have pools and spas too.

Many of the newer segundo buildings have doubles rooms converted to triples room. Not sure how that is gonna work next year tho.

Tercero south is the newest dorm right now

I just realized I said Cuarto. I meant Castilian. Cuarto are a part of Castilian, oops sorry. The other advantage of Castilian suites (besides semi private bathrooms) is the extra common room.

"what dorms are freshmens usually in?"

Freshmen are in ALL dorms. Dorms are really only for freshmen, getting on campus housing after that is rare & expensive.

I lived in Tercero way back in the day. The cow smell isn't that bad. It's mainly in the early early morning hours & when it's hazy outside.. once the sun comes out it burns it all away. Just sleep with your window closed & it's ok.
Another thing to consider when applying for housing is air conditioning.. spring quarter can get quite toasty. If I remember correctly, the older Segundo buildings don't have air conditioning. Tercero does though.

I'm pretty sure as of last year they all have air conditioning now.

You appear to be correct.. I found this article about them adding air conditioning to Regan, a part of the older Seguno area:
http://media.www.californiaaggie.com/media/storage/paper981/news/2006/08/24/CampusNews/Makeover.Student.Housing.Edition-2238729.shtml

Article is from August 2006, so I'm glad that it wasn't too out of date with my info. This year's freshmen & all future freshmen should be very thankful they are guaranteed to have air conditioning wherever they live.

1) Are there single rooms available anywhere for freshmen (more specifically a Regents Scholar)?

2) How's Miller Hall (for the Regents Scholars)?

Any info is appreciated, so hit me!

Yes there are single rooms available. My d lives in a suite (Castilian) and one of her suitemates is in a single; you just pay a little more. As to regents I'm not sure, but I would imagine they would have singles available in their housing just like in the other dorms.

How about a single not even in a suite? Just simply a single in all sense of the word?

U See UC, as far as I know, you can only get a single if you live in the Cuarto complex. A suite is a dorm room, it's just called a suite because you have a common room in the entrance way, so instead of exiting into a hallway, you exit into a living room and then out the front door.

fooshy

wait, so when do we request dorms and stuff? after the SIR?

U See UC and fooshy,

Singles are available in many of the residence halls, not just suites. You pay more, of course. However, unless you're exceptionally outgoing, you will probably find it easier to get to know people and make new friends if you share a room, at least in the traditional non-suite dorms.
