Freshmen Grade

Good afternoon CC,

I'm a freshman in high school and I sorta screwed up, well *ed up to be exact.
My first two quarter grades were total *, like to the point where my parents said I'll be a HS dropout and they gave up on me (but that's not relevant). My sister is in *ing Cornell so my expectations are so damn high, I hate it.
First quarter was about a 2.4, and 2nd quarter (*ed up) was a 1.9.
I know I screwed up. I'm just wondering do I still have a chance? even a chance for prestigious unis?

My problems are procrastination. Not doing HW and studying, you understand.
I spoke to my councilor, and we made expectations and guidelines for myself.

I know I just can't wake up one day and say I'll get a 4.0gpa next quarter but I'm really going to try. I've cut off somethings that weren't really helping my before, like games, movies, television.

Proposing I do better the last 2 quarters of this year and rest of my HS years, 3.5gpa+, will is be possible/will I still have the chance to get into prestigious unis?
(dream unis are Columbia, and Cornell, but I know those aren't even near reaches)

-thank you CC.

Upward trend is good… But you would have to kick butt - Do REALLY good on SAT/ACT and take part in some ECs

But I know some schools disregard your freshmen year - might want to look into if those schools do or dont

Never get a B again and be very involved in extracurriculars, and you’ll definitely be a candidate for Cornell. Columbia… eh, not so much.

“I know I just can’t wake up one day and say I’ll get a 4.0gpa next quarter but I’m really going to try.”

Yes, you can if you’re smart enough and doing your homework is your main problem, as you said. My freshman year (last year) I had a 2.7 UW because I did absolutely no homework. This year, my sophomore year, the semester just ended and I had a 4.0 UW, bringing my GPA to 3.35 UW, around 3.6 weighted. If I continue it, I could be #1 in the class by the end of senior year (possible junior).

I just made myself start doing homework, and it appears that is your only problem too. If you really want to go to your dream school, you’ll do the work. If you don’t, you probably won’t even care enough to do well there.

^^ Says it perfectly… But I didnt get a 4.0 uw this sem, off by 2 points… -__-

Homework and trying are my biggest problems but, i tried a little this year and got all As but 2 Bs (Each one point away from an A) If i tried a little more i could have all As :/
