How much do colleges consider High School freshmen grades during admission? I really messed up freshmen year with mostly Bs and a C. But during sophomore year I had two UC-credit honors class and Junior year 4 AP classes and got all straight As. Can anyone tell me how much my freshmen grades are going to affect my college admissions?

i heard that either berkeley or ucla (or both?) disregard freshman year grades completely. so do princeton and stanford. even if your school reports them on your transcript.

for schools that do consider all four years, freshman year is the least consequential. furthermore, an upward trend (B's --> A's) means that you recognized your own problem and dealt with it maturely and appropriately, and have grown into a successful student. colleges absolutely love that.

the UC's don't look at Frosh grades, nor does Stanford or Princeton. But, class rank is very important to many top tier schools, so even if they don't consider Frosh grades, your rank is impacted by them. But, as theoneo points out, upward trend is the best answer.

It won't matter at all at UCs.

The competition is so tough at the HYP that a C in freshman year would adversely affect you, but outside of that level, it won't matter much. Certainly, in a sane world, it would not matter. Continue with that into junior year and you're be fine.
