On this end, I'm glad to have him out of the house, not have to nag him about chores, homework, computer games, college applications, being late for work, etc. I've seen a significant reduction in the laundry pile, the grocery bill and my stress level, too. So, yes, we're all happy--so far.

atomom, I am awed, simply awed, by your honesty! As an empty nester (two grown and gone, plus one in college, one in boarding school), I totally share your relief. It has been 37 years since I was "childless," and it's about time.

LOL, celloguy. That was just our first one sent off-- I am about as far away from an empty nest (about 19 more years) as one can get! (One down, 7 to go. . .)

DD has only been at her college for a week. So far we have heard no complaints that are significant. She likes three of her four classes a LOT. The fourth got off to a slow start but she is hoping that improves. They are on quarters...so have four classes. The only "complaint" is that the orchestra isn't quite what she expected, but again that was after one rehearsal. She LOVES the weather (it's cloudy, rainy and cool here at our home...sunny and gorgeous where she is). Today she is off to the fitness center. Her email said "we are going to the gym". I guess that means she has found someone to go with her. She even says the food is alright. Hopefully this will just continue. That would be good!!!

DD is doing great, very happy at Occidental. She's had a hard time is the past with transitions but most of her concerns disappeared 5 minutes after she arrived. Sunny large air conditioned room and roomate seems to be perfect match or as daughter says excellent. Reality set in as she started classes-24 units of AP classes had her testing out of most of her freshman classes but she thrives on challenge. D often calls us from Pasadena 5 minutes away-the location of Oxy seems perfect for my small town girl-close to alot of action and downtown LA but the campus is kinda of serene. D started working tutoring and is trying out some new things (Art show, clubbing, beaches) She doesn't sleep a lot dorms are going till 2 am and she wakes early but over all seems happy and engaged but she should call home more often.

I've been trying to talk son into taking dance (swing, ballroom) as a course next semester to meet his divisional requirement for the art/music/drama section. So far he says, no go. I'll try that argument.
