instead of asking people to do your work, you can always research. this should help. [Hopkins Forums -> Dorms](http://z14.invisionfree.com/Hopkins_Forums/index.php?showtopic=1706)

spend some time on the rest of the forum too. even though i’m guessing it’s written by people working for admissions and therefore biased towards the school, their general information is probably far more credible than anything on CC - because its the real hopkins website.
here’s the homepage: [Hopkins Interactive](http://www.hopkins-interactive.com/)

@OneWorld…Wow, that was kind of an ugly response. As it happens, I Looked at that forum last night, followed the link from an older thread. I would not say the information is any more credible than information I found on CC. I personally come to CC to get advice from a number of sources, including alumni, parents, admissions (Daniel), and interested parties. Yes, it is a nice forum, but yes, I would like to see what people here have to say on the topic. And instead of being accused of “asking people to do my work”, I instead view it as welcoming people that have some insight to share with me. Although I am not the original poster, I was hoping to read something of interest here.

@#1 Chief So here is what I learned from Hopkins Interactive, browsing CC, from my Daughters visit, and a few other sources: Not all of the information is accurate, so take it with a grain of salt. Anyone else that can chime in, it would be appreciated.

AMR is the typical “College Dorm” experience. Rooms off a big hall, shared bathrooms which are cleaned by a janitorial staff. No AC. In theory these are more social places, although students from all dorms argree that some floors are more social than others, and that some of the other dorms are equally as social.

A/B and Wolman are “suites” with a few rooms and a shared bathroom. Wolman has a shared kitchenette too. Due to a number of doors between you and the main hall, the theory is that they are less social places, although all students agree this is not the main difference. They are further from the FFC, so that can be good/bad depending on your take. They have AC. Wolman is supposed to be nicer. Either way you have to clean your own bathroom.

From what I read, you will be asked your choice of dorm, and your choice of Single/Double/Triple, and which is more important. If you want a triple, and that is more important than the building, they will bump buildings for you. If you want a particular building, and that is your priority, they will try to make it happen.

There are floorprints available online, I think you look for student life, then dorms/meals, then the floorplan.

Not sure if this helps at all. My D likes distractions, and is not much of a cleaner, so I think it is AMR for her. Any added insight would be welcome…If you dont think I am asking you to do my work for me ;)

Oh, BTW: A thread was removed last week about how ‘hot’ female students are at JHU. Using profile pictures from hopkins interactive as a gauge for student hot-ness, I would have to say that 10 out of 10 girls at hopkins are Gorgeous.

Thanks @dadwonders!!!..very informative!

Um, only Wolman is further from the FFC. Building B is right on top of it.

If you choose Wolman, pick 14 meals

Else, pick anytime meal plan.

Hey, what about building A vs building B??

I’ve heard that building B tends to be quieter than building A (a bad thing for me… I like to be social, but I don’t like sharing a bathroom with 25 people, so the AMR’s are kinda out of the question.)… Some input??

They aren’t too different - I wouldn’t worry about it a great deal. It’ll all depend on who lives on your hall, not the hall itself.

Wolman: Each floor has its own lounge which is really convenient for hanging out.
AMR I: Has a really nice study lounge and multipurpose room, which is an excellent place for studying.
AMR II: Similar to AMR I, the setup seems more sociable in AMR II than AMR I though because the hallways are straight rather than looping around, which tends to separate people. AMR II also has a gaming room with pool/ping ping.
Building B: Has its own lounge in the basement, with pool tables.
Building A: Similar to B without the lounge.

Whether the place is social ultimately depends on you and your floormates though.

CC: Really new, though it’s for upperclassmen. It almost feels like…a hotel.
Mccoy: Pretty much the same as Wolman, mainly for sophomores though.

I’m a freshman this year, and live in AMR II. Although I was worried about the communal bathroom and no ac situation, they were really a nonissue. First off, having communal bathrooms is GREAT because you don’t have to clean them! They are totally wiped down and disinfected every day. In addition, NEVER have I had to wait for a shower or a bathroom stall because only about 6/7 people (not 25!) use them regularly, and since people have various shower times, this works out great.

Also, not have AC only matters the first three weeks and the last three weeks of school. I live on the third floor, so it can get very hot and humid during these select times, but you can always work in the library or the FFC. You’re not in your room 24/7 so it’s bearable. I currently have three fans running in my room in various directions, so it’s fine. Besides the beginning and end of the school year, not having AC is not an issue.

Not having “suites” is really the best in my opinion. My floormates and I hang out in the hallways all the time (AMRs are sort of situated like hotels, with the rooms all next to each other and a long hallway connecting them all), and it’s really easy to meet new people since they are walking through the halls all the time.

The people you meet during freshman year tend to be the people you stay with, so it’s nice to meet a lot of people!

BTW the bathrooms in AMR II were redone over winter break, so they’re nice and new.
