<p>Is it necessary to have a summer internship as a freshman to be competitive later on? As a side question what kind of GPA should I have for big name CS companies like Google or Amazon. I have 3.5 right now at Georgia Tech</p>

<p>You do not need to have a summer internship as a freshman to be selected for one later on. However, it is an easier path to continue interning at a Google or a Facebook if you were selected as a freshman with respect to difficulty, quantity of interviews to get back in the door in sophomore/junior years. GPAs are all relative based on school you attend, so can’t comment on whether 3.5 meets threshold.</p>
