how much did freshmen orientation cost last year?

it's like $380 this year

I think $360. And yes, UCLA Orientation is more expensive than any other orientation program in the UC system.

wow thats expensive...lol why is it so expensive anyway? so all you do during orientation is get info/sign up for classes? what else do you do?

does the orientation include like a campus tour because ive never been to ucla before and im planning to take a campus tour unless the orientation provides one?

Umm, last year for $360 we got:

2 night stay at Sproul
$10 on your BruinCard for use at Ackerman
a few meals at Covel
workshops
counceling
signing up for classes
campus tour
entertainment
scavenger hunt
a freshmen booklet of info on requirements and clusters
a ucla bag
a ucla pen
a wallet
a calendar poster

It's expensive because the people there at your service has to be paid somehow, right? The OCs do get a stipend and housing and food (I think) for staying there the entire summer.

The majority of the expense probably comes from the 2(?) days of housing you get w/ food. The only real important thing about orientation is to sign up early to get the classes you want (not as advantageous to sign up in the middle of orientations offered either since they cap some enrollment halfway through and don't open up enrollment until it's time for a later orientation session to come in to try and make things fair). Its great for making friends too, but my roommate at that time just wound up signing in, then going home for the entire session, and returning the morning of the last day to sign up for his classes.

so im from the bay area, so i should just forget about the campus tour and wait for orientation right?

I had a question for orientation. If we go to the orientation in june or early july how are we suppose to know what classes we can skip out of from the AP credits? Cause Ap scores dont come out until mid-july. So, do we just have to like sign up for an orientation day after mid-july? would that be bad cause classes are gonna be filled up?

I don't know if it's the same tour, but I suppose that it won't make much of a difference.

I thought that there weren't any sessions before July. They'll have the scores before July.

If it does happen that you don't have the info, then just sign up for classes as usual. You can always change your schedule after orientation.

Well the campus tour isn't as entertaining...

And my AP credits actually came out in time for me, and I signed up for the second orientation session. The UCs (if you designated them when you took the exam) will get the AP scores much sooner than you will in the mail, so I found out all my scores through UCLA I think 2 weeks ahead of when collegeboard released it to me themselves.

Will it be cheaper if we choose not to live there? Wi****l thinking....

Did that dates for orientation already come out? Oh shiet---I need to turn in my SIR then?!

Oh and I said "wist-ful thinking" up there... but apparently the filter blocked out "s tfu." Funny :D

no, they said you can start signing up for the orientation at the end of May. the SIR has to be sent in before May 1.

no, the dates for orientation haven't been released. you need to SIR by May 1st.

hey, thanks! does anyone from last year still have the dates for the orientation sessions? i want to see, because I'm trying to buy airplane tickets for a trip elsewhere.
