How important is/ was freshmen orientation for you as part of your college life, this includes making your schedule, friends, intro to campus etc... How would it affect one to attend freshmen orientation on move-in day? I ask these questions out of interest because for which ever school I may attend, its likely that I may be apart of the freshmen orientation on move-in day ( mom does not want to make frequent trips). How could this affect me? I do not want a horrible first semester schedule ... though this can be double as it is only the making of ones first semester.

Anything else you think I may be interested in knowing just post.

For me freshman orientation wasn’t a big deal. I had mine a few days before classes started right after move-in day, and found the experience to be a nice transition into college life. At my college, class selection was set up in such a way that it didn’t matter when you had orientation; everyone had a fair shot at choosing classes. This is not the case at many large universities.

I just liked orientation because it gave me a feel for the campus. I didn’t mean anyone significant or have any kind of college-changing experience. I think it just made me more comfortable with the whole idea of going to college. Mine was also in June, months before move-in which I’m sure made a difference.

Orientation was a big deal for my school. We do it during the summer (June). It’s when you take your writing placement test for English so they know what class to put you in, learn more about the school, make your schedule, and find a roommate if you don’t want to be randomly assigned. Plus, it was really fun!
