Freshmen summer program

should i go to summer school before going to berkeley next fall 2011....i mean it is my senior summer after all...so what are your thoughts? because i really want to just relax before entering the first year as a freshman at berkeley...that is if the pros outweighs the cons of course

and also, what are the benefits of taking summer classes at berkekeley in the summer....

well for one, since you do your required internet orientation over the summer, when you come back in the fall you get to use the internet two entire days before everyone else completes their orientation. It makes you feel awesome.

anyone else have an opinion?

I took classes over the summer. For me I live in the Bay Area so I got to still live at home and just commuted to Berkeley to take classes. Classes aren’t really that stressful, and I feel like it really helped me get acquainted with the campus as well as college style classes. Not to mention getting ahead with my requirements. If you live far away and you’ll have to live there it might be a different experience. But if you want to still relax you could just take one class which is pretty much nothing.

for financial aid to work, they said i have to take at least 6 units, does that mean its one class, or is that 2 clas?

classes are typically 3 or 4 units each, labs often 2 units. Pretty unlikely to find a single class at 6 units, so yeah, two classes, maybe three.

as an incoming freshman, what 2 classes would you guys recommend taking, that is somewhat manageable? and easy to get A’s in?

You’ll feel better than everyone else in the first few weeks of the fall which may be a good and bad thing. Also, your CalSO if you have it during the summer as well will be a complete waste of time and money, although required. Also note that if you take Berkeley summer (C-etc.), the fall semester will start promptly a week or so after it ends, meaning you’ll rarely get a break. This also is important since most people end their HS graduation a week or closer to when they move to Berkeley, so you may never get a break from school. It was like this for me and a couple friends, and it may be important if you want a break for school.
