Is the freshmen summer writing worth it? In order to participate I would need to sacrifice my summer for 1 class.

The benefits would be: (1) get one writing requirement out of the way; (2) have more free time during the year; and, (3) get to know the campus.

The costs would be: (1) unable to enjoy my summer; and, (2) participate in other planned activities.

Anyone have past experience with this? Are the freshmen writing seminars difficult enough to require special attention during the summer?

two classes, i think. another "cost" would be the almost $8,000. my goodness. they try to guilt you by saying it's the way to "make the most of your time at cornell" but gosh. and it really does take up the whole summer...

it's not likely you'll be reducing your course load by much since you have a to take a minimum of 12 credits per semester. If you do get exempt from the FRS, you'll likely fill in your "open spot" with another class anyways.

Besides, the freshmen writing seminars are some of the coolest classes on campus. IMO, dont miss out. If really really dont want to take them, usually english 101 and 102 at a community college can be taken for the writing seminar credits for a whooooole lot less than $8,000.

Enjoy your summer and take two writing seminars next year. They're usually both easy and interesting, and they're definitely not worth sacrificing your summer to avoid.
