Freshmen year question

Hey, so I'm relatively new to these forums and have read through the above stickies, but still have a question. I'm an freshman at a prestigious university (top 15) and am confused as to what to do between the first and second semester gap. Is it important/vital that I do something productive between these semesters? I have a few options: take a couple courses at my university (this is what I want to avoid, but I still want to show that I'm interested in other things besides just medicine and show that I've been productive during my time off as well--can I do this without taking these courses during this term?), possibly shadow some doctors at a local hospital in my home town, and volunteer at medical facilities. What would be the best/wisest choice?

Thank you in advance!

If you don’t want to take classes, then shadowing and volunteering would be recommended. You could also try research if you are interested. Maybe an internship though its hard to find one thats premed related. I would strongly recommend you do something constructive. You only have 3 summers before you’re applying to medschool. I personally took physics and shadowed and worked some.

you’re talking about winter break right?
relax, hang out, dont study

ahaha I only have two weeks for winter break.

oh haha. I assumed you were talking about summer break. I agree with bigreddawgie. Rejuvenate for next semester. What I meant was for the summer. Your school lets you take classes over winter break? Must have a long winter break, sweet.
