Freshmen

Uhm I don't think you have to start this early.

I'm not really sure... I could have sworn I read it somewhere (not on this MB). I dunno, probably wrong :p

Even if you read it somewhere, does it make it true?? Um no. Stop being so...mechanical. There isn't a rulebook that gets u into ivy league. Also, serendipity, please tell me u dont want to go to harvard. Every fricken little kid and their cousin wants to go to harvard and it's getting annoying :D

No not everyone.

I personally do not understand why students are so preoccupied with being their school's valedictorian. If that's your goal, to be number one, it seems to me that you may as well just look down on your fellow classmates and say, "I am better than you and you and you." Because in the end, isn't that what it's about-- beating X number of other students? Talk about extrinsic motivation! In addition to your own accomplishments, your ultimate success in being valedictorian will be contingent on others' failures.

Don't people do anything for themselves anymore? Push yourself. Try new things. Don't ever settle for less than your personal best. If you love orchestra, keep at it. At least that will show the adcoms that you're interested in something other than getting an A+ on every test you take. But don't make high-school out to be a competition between you and your friends.

In the end, there will always be someone better than you, academically or socially. Even if you accomplish your goal and attend your dream school (which is likely much more competitive than your HS), you don't want to be faced with the same personal expectation for the rest of your life.

You know that telling them this doesn't help and its something they will figure out for themselves sooner or later?

I recommend that everyone read VVV. Great book.

If 97 percent or above was an A at my school, and below that was an A-, my current GPA would be like a 3.7 (assuming A- = 3.667) rather than the 4.0 it is now.

Sucks for you.

89.5+ counts as an A-/A. We get no A+s. I just finished freshman year with a 4.0. easiest year of my life.

GreenDayFan-
One, never mentioned Ivy League… anywhere. Two, most (notice the most) people would gladly accept if they were offered the chance to go to Harvard, and I am among them, so yes I would want to go to Harvard. However, no, I have not started seriously looking at or considering Harvard, or any college for that matter.

blue-eyes-
Thank you for you’re input, but I do not plan on dropping orchestra and never have. I’m sorry if my initial post gives the impression that I’m obsessed with being valedictorian, but I’m really not. I just wanted to complain about my circumstances. I can survive without being valedictorian lol :p

Did I say anybody mentioned the Ivy League? Uhhh..NO. I did not. I said:

It was just a thought. What i was sayin is that harvard is a good school, whatever, but there are other schools just as good if not better. harvard is very overrated for undergrad.

Listen, do NOT determine your entire 4 years based on a desire to be valedictorian. This is basic gametheory. You want to be the best, but you don't know what the other kids have planned up their sleeve. How will you feel if you get 3rd rank? Look into auditing orchestra. I took the course path you are thinking of taking. I'm now a senior freak w/ no art courses taken at all in HS, and have lost my passion for art that I used to have.

I definitely think that the arts classes should be ec's, clubs, or otherwise not graded the same. NOBODY fails these classes, and grades are usually always 95+....and there's intense competition to get available seats!!

NO!!! ok u just made me feel stupid. I got a low A in art.like a 91...and it was intro to art. How rude.

You mentioned Ivy League:

"There isn't a rulebook that gets u into ivy league."

But thank you for your opinion, and I know what you mean about Harvard being overrated.

Ok this is what you said

I responded saying that I never said that anyone else mentioned Ivy League, that I was just trying to make a point.

So, what was that last post supposed to prove. You told me I mentioned the Ivy League..duh..what's that have to do with it? Now you've got me confused. Again, I never denied mentioning the ivy league.

I'm confused, too. I was responding to GreenDayFan... unless you're the same person under a different UN?

I think you are, so:

What I said was I never mentioned that I wanted to get into the Ivy League in response to you're post:

"Stop being so...mechanical. There isn't a rulebook that gets u into ivy league."

You then said that you never said that no one mentioned the Ivy League... which wasn't what I was saying either... does that make any sense at all?

I am the same person lol.

i know what i mean but i dont know how to say it without it being confusing haha...so..um..nevermind lol.
