FreshPerson versus FOOT for pre-orientation

Would love opinions on the FreshPerson versus the FOOT programs at Yale. The FreshPerson seems to give a better opportunity to meet and spend time with a larger number of students, versus the 8 or so at FOOT, but people seem to love FOOT. Do students love the FreshPerson (FPC) also?

thanks!

Both seem really fun and fulfill the ultimate objective: meeting future classmates before classes begin...however when I had to pick one or the other I took several factors into consideration...

Foot is longer than FPC, even if you opt for the shorter version...this is good for some people and bad for others. Yes, you get to have fun and meet people for a greater amount of time, but some people (especially out of state-ers like me) have to forfeit that many more days to experience closure and leave.

However, Foot definitely trumps FPC in terms of appealing to the more rugged outdoorsy demographic...yes, there are exceptions because lots of people will want to try backpacking out for the first time, but in my case it was a bit of a turnoff. This brings me to my next point...

FPC is great for people like me who want to meet future classmates (perhaps residential college friends) while at the same time not compromising my comfortability and love-hate relationship with the outdoors. I personally am a city kind of person who likes the idea of having cabins, more traditional and tame activities that appeal to people of all comfortability levels (from minor hiking to playing cards under the shade, everyone can find something interesting). Foot is a little too hardcore for my tastes.

So going back to the original question...from what I have observed, both are enjoyable, although I can definitely see how choosing Foot would be a nobrainer for a lot of people. I chose FPC because 1) I prefer ammenties when I am outdoors :P and 2) it is like summer camp with one huge advantage...it is short which does not allow enough time for serious drama and frustration for one another to unfold.

Conclusion...I am looking forward to FPC!

Speaking of which...I applied like the day I got the little brochure, but do we still need to wait for an "acceptance," so to speak? I wanna start looking forward to something, lol.

Jharret, I sent you a PM.

As a 2010er who did FPC, I will say that while I met nice people there, some of whom I'm still friends with, it wasn't that exciting of an experience. They give a lot of talks about life at Yale, some of which are more interesting than others, and you don't have quite as much time to have fun at the camp as you'd like, or to get to know other students. My friends who did FOOT absolutely loved it and from time to time have FOOT reunions (whereas I don't see my fellow podmembers, ever). But one thing to consider with FOOT is that you will get to campus tired, hot and sweaty, just in time to move all your stuff in and run around doing all the Camp Yale activities.
