I am currently applying to colleges. I am a child dev major and want to be an elementary school teacher. I know many of you are going to say that I should be a liberal studies major, but that would mean and extra year at a JC. Plus, some CSU's such as Sac and Fresno have a Child Dev pre credential program that are meant for students like me:)

I live 45 minutes away from Fresno and practically everyone I know goes there. But, I want to get out. If I do go to Fresno I plan on moving there. But, I do not want to stay in the valley.

Sacramento's cost of living is the same as Fresno's. I'm just having a hard time choosing where to go. I do not know much about Sacramento and I read reviews and they were either really bad or really good. My best friend visits Sac for a week every summer and she absolutely loves the city. That's something I'm into, beautiful cities.

My gpa is a 2.9 (I know horrible! I did bad my first yr at jr. college) But, it definitely should be above a 3.0 this semester.

Please, I would like to hear everyones opinions and suggestions on this topic.

Well, you can apply to both…

What kind of net price are you looking at for each school?

@ucbalumnus I’m not sure. I did look at both tuitions and both are around the same price. Plus, I should be getting financial aid.

The main difference in cost would likely be if you could live with your parents or other family members and commute versus living on your own on or off campus.

<a href=“Cal State Apply | CSU”>Cal State Apply | CSU; is the net price calculator for CSUs; use it to get financial aid estimates.

ucbalumnus if I go to Fresno I still plan on moving out. But, I probably will wait until I find a job in Fresno before I move out. If I go to sac I will move out once the school year starts and will have to look for a job once I move there.

One vote for Sac State.

Sacramento is a city on its way up. Fresno, not so much. Sac State is right on the American River and there are lots of safe and fairly cheap places to live a short bike ride from campus. The credential program is well respected locally and I think you’ll find more job opportunities as a student.

Besides, it sounds like you want a fresh start.
