Fri, 12, 2007 SAT Question of the Day

I don't get it.. I thought it was the answer was c) 4. Can someone please explain this problem to me? Thanks. I don't get the online solution.

Read the following SAT test question, then click on a button to select your answer.

In the figure above, four lines intersect as shown. If a = 30 and line is parallel to line m, how many of the seven angles marked with arrows must have measure 30??

A)One
B) Three
C) Four
D) Five
E) Seven

I'm sorry, I'm unable to post the picture. The correct answer is B) Three.

Well, the two lines going / / are NOT necessarily parallel.

See my illustration :D

<a href="http://tinyurl.com/yzxkmn%5B/url%5D">http://tinyurl.com/yzxkmn</a></p>

a is not one of the marked arrows. b,c, and d are, and they are 30 degrees.

omgg! I just missed the the information, "marked with arrows'!! Silly mistakes like this lead me into getting the question totally wrong. =P I understand that the lines don't necessarily have to be parallel. I just counted angle a as one of the angles =P thanks for the diagram and explanation though! It helped me figure out what I missed lol.
