Friday Classes and Free Evenings

during the class scheduling process i have the option of having very few classes on Friday. Is is advisable to do this, to make the other 4 days heavier to give keep Friday free. Do a lot of clubs, groups at Penn organize events/meetings on fridays, and would they be unattendable because of friday classes.

Also, do most of these meetings/events happen in the morning or evening? would it be better to schedule classes in the morning back to back , or spread them across the whole day if possible?

Most groups schedule their meetings on weekday evenings. Friday is considered more or less the beginning of a three day weekend every week. That said, there’s nothing wrong with having night classes (if you donj’t mind getting out of class while it’s dark outside). My current schedule for next semester gives me no class Monday or Friday, four classes on TR (beginning at 9 and going til’ 5 with a break from noon to 1:30) and I have one class from 2-5 every Wednesday… and that schedule is amazingly awesome for me. Buut different people like different things. Some people can’t stand having a ton of classes on the same day. I’m just not one of those people!

wow, chrisw, u essentially have a 4 day weekend - awesome!! lol im jealous :P

chrisw, if i had that schedule i would not find such hectic days ‘awesome’ hahaha…the 4 day weekend does sound GREAt though :P

so if weekends essentially start on Friday, do a lot of social events + parties happen on Thursday night?

^yes, some people even start going out on Wednesdays.

Psh, my Tuesdays are easy compared to last semester; last semester my schedule went class 9-10, 10:30-12, 1:30-3, 3-4, 4:30-6:30, 6:30-7:30 (8 hours of class). Having 9-10:30, 10:30-12, 1:30-3 and 3:30-5 is caaaaaaake! :-P

And yeah it’s totally worth it for a four day weekend.

Also, yes a great many social gatherings happen Thursday nights. And Friday classes usually don’t stop people from partaking in the fun, as they are usually recitations and the like.
