Last night, I got a giggle out of appreciating my son for who he is. My S is almost 18 and he spent last night on the computer IM'ing another 17 year old about biology olympiad questions. I am quite certain that none of his school mates were doing anything similar :-). It's not your "normal" Friday night activity.

ok .

Crazymomster, c’mon now. You do realize you are on the MIT page? My two daughters spent the evening debating AMC answers from their test earlier this week…just saying:)

yeah, it was sort of just an implication that mit is where he belongs :-)

sorry, ok it was a dumb thread…

beat me with a wet noodle… it’s ok, i can take it :-)

tonight, your house, we’re makin some ramen babies.

Lol it’s ok. D and I today discussed whether she might start with 18.02, 18.021, 18.021a, 18.021ai, etc…(I don’t have the numbers quite right). She has never been so talkative in her life!

Weird parents…

@shareezy - yes, weird parents, but you know… sometimes you just gotta do what you just gotta do. my S is only “mine” for a little while longer.

That is so true. When my daughter left for MIT at age 17, she never came back again, apart from brief stops over the winter break. Did I really realize that at the time? There are just so many opportunities at MIT during summers and IAP. So much for an eager beaver to do…so little time.

It’s all good, though. Sending an independent son or daughter out into the world is every parent’s dream. Enjoy!
:-)

Awwwwww!!
It’s true, a lot of us only go home for a week in the summer and another week in the winter. I miss my family like crazy.

^ how far away is home?

Central PA.

LOL that’s not far at all, but I suppose Cambridge is the place to be :-)

Crazymomster, will you have a freshman S at MIT this fall?

@crazymomster: Your definition of far changes dramatically when you have classes, three problem sets, and an exam every week, and three on-campus jobs. Central PA is a full day’s trip on the bus (Boston->New York->State College) or an expensive plane ride away. I don’t have the money or the time to go home unless it’s for at least a week, and week-long vacations don’t happen often. Trust me, I love my family, and if I could be home every weekend I would.
