Fridge/micro combo?

My DD will be a freshman next month and I am wondering if the dorms allow fridge/micro combo or should we buy one of each. We will coordinate with roommate. Just didn't want to buy if she couldn't have it in the dorm.

I am from TMC
We had a small refrigerator in every room, but one micro in common room.

i’d strongly suggest renting one for the year. there are flyers given out at move-in and you can share the fee with the roommate. the companies take care of delivery and removal, and you won’t have to deal with the stress of trying to resell it.

You’re allowed to have a fridge and microwave, I know some people who brought their own microwave and mini fridges for their room. But you should really see if you need them, because some of the colleges provide them for you to use in common areas, etc while others might not. I heard people living at ERC dorms didn’t have access to one in their suites, while in Muir there’s one in the common area for every two suites. You might also want to wait and see the roommate or suitemate situation, to see whether others are bring one or chipping in for one.

Most of the dorms have some type of communal kitchen in the building with microwave, stove etc. She will survive first quarter without a microwave in her bedroom-- everyone is usually busy going to dining halls with new friends- I don’t think anyone set foot in the kitchen during my first quarter. If she ends up wanting a microwave go out and buy one at Winter break and add it to her room.

The less stuff you take at move-in the better! You can always buy what you’re missing later.

Also the UCSD bookstore has amazing junk for dorm-rooms during move-in week. Cute colors, cheap etc… Much better than anything I found at Target and Bed Bath and Beyond. They have everything like those shower caddies, trash cans, toaster etc…

Also: Some of the girls in my suite brought way too much stuff so we put all the extras out in the common room to share. a TV, microwave, rice cooker, and toaster.
